ICEC Banquet - Our Keynote Speaker Mr. Dilip Barot is a 38 year old entrepreneur from West Palm Beach, Florida. He was featured in an article in the November 6, 1995 issue of Forbes magazine under "The Best Small Companies" which states that his Naimisha Group manages over 2,000 public housing apartments in four states from Florida to Nevada. In 1994 his company earned a tidy $10 million on $50 million in revenues. Hoping at first to pursue a career in pharmacy Barot arrived in the U.S. as recently as 1983, working his way up from a small motel manager, to a motel owner, and finally to a developer of abandoned housing projects. ICEC Salutes New & Improved Donors ! The following have recently upgraded their founding member status to that of Donor. Although we are aware that there may be several others who have recently contributed to become donors or founding members, as of the writing of this newsletter their names were not made available to the editor. Every attempt will be made to include their names in future newsletters. Our apologies for the delay. Rahul Agarwal Scholarship Dr. & Mrs. Shio Agarwal of Gainesville have donated a sum of $5,000 to ICEC in memory of their son Rahul. The interest from this donation will be made available towards an annual scholarship to a deserving student. Details about the nature of this scholarship are still being worked out. Harmonium & Hindustani Vocal Music Lessons Shiwani Aurora (332-9366), the talented singer/musician from Gainesville, has agreed to teach Harmonium and Hindustani Vocal music to children under 15 years of age. The classes will be held at her house every Sunday morning at 10:00 am. The fee wil be $10 per class of 1 hour to 2 hours.
ICEC Seeks Nominations For Community Service & Leadership Awards ICEC is seeking nominations for the 1997 awards to be presented during the Fifth Annual Banquet on March 8, 1997. The awards are to be given for the following categories: (1) A community service award to be presented to a person of Indian origin who is living in Florida and has demonstrated an outstanding commitment to community service. (2) A community service award to be presented to a student at the University of Florida who has demonstrated an outstanding record of service to the community, while at the University of Florida. (3) A student leadership award to be presented to a student at the University of Florida who has demonstrated an outstanding record of leadership, while at the University of Florida. The nominations should be sent c/o Dr. Ramakant Srivastava, 2019 NW 17th Lane, Gainesville, Florida 32605. The nominations should be sent by February 20, 1997.

Nominations for 7th Grade SAT Score Award
As in the past two years a student getting the highest SAT score in the 7th grade as part of the Talent Identification Program (Duke University) will be eligible for a prize of $100. We encourage students who appeared in the SAT exam in their 7th grade and are currently in the 7th or 8th grade to apply for this award. Please fax or send your SAT score to Dr. Bhavani Sankar (352-392-6749 (phone) or 352-392-7303 (FAX)). The winner will be presented with a certificate of merit and $100 award during the Fifth Annual ICEC Banquet on March 8, 1997.
Don't Forget the United Way !!
A gentle reminder that you can channel your contributions to ICEC through the United Way. Many of you no doubt contri- bute to the United Way at work. We have filled out all the requisite forms so that anyone can request to direct their contributions towards ICEC. ICEC receives contributions by several members to the United Way who have designated ICEC to be the beneficiary. This can be done from anywhere within Florida.
