President's Message

The construction of the Center is right on schedule.  Fund raising efforts are also in high gear.  Those members who have pledged towards this project but have not yet sent their checks are requested to send their donations to Dr. Dinesh Shah as soon as possible so as to keep the construction right on schedule. A few days ago, some members of the executive committee attended the India Festival at Boca Raton, Fl.  This grand function was well organized and well attended.  The ICEC booth was able to attract the attention of a number of people.  It is hoped that this interest will crystallize into financial help over the next few months.  The executive committee has also decided to focus on Florida, dividing it into ten geographical areas for the purpose of fund raising. The annual banquet will be held on the 8th of March, 1997 at the Gainesville Radisson Inn.  On behalf of the executive committee I invite and request all members to attend this function and make it a grand success.

                    Rama Nathan, M.D. F.A.C.S.

ISA President's Column

Hello and welcome to the University of Florida.  My name is Deepa Shah and I am the President of the Indian Student Association of Florida. As students at the University of Florida, you plan for the development of your goals for the future - may it be professional or social.  Socially speaking there are many organizations that the university offers and the Indian Student Association is one of the many great clubs.  On behalf of the Executive Board of ISA, I would like to extend the warmest welcome to everyone.

Change has not been easy, but ISA has gone through it and prospered to new heights.  While maintaining the original traditions, we have also added new events and objectives to ISA.  In the past ISA has taken part in various events such as Diwali, Semi-Formal dance and others such as outdoor picnics.  In the competitive world, ISA students have also taken part in the VISA International Week - showcasing the beauty in Indian culture and dances.  And now our last event before the old officers leave will be the 1997 Miss North Florida Pageant.  With the going of the old comes the new; we have realized the importance of making ISA strong and influential on and among the other organizations on campus, thus we have created a home page on the web - http://grove.ufl.edu/~gisa.  With this service we have kept the Indian community updated on all the announcements and future events of ISA.

I welcome the perspective each of you can bring to our organization and am aware that without active participation of all its members, ISA would be virtually non-existent.  I would also like to thank all the ICEC members in supporting the Indian Students and also for the new building on 13th Street -- we hope it will provide us room to grow.  I hope that ISA will be a successful organization for now and for the future.

                    Deepa Shah
