The Fire

The heat is warm.
The light is bright enough.
The night is just being born.
The fire's burning,
The sun is setting,
And there's no reason to ask more.

No one else is coming near.
Together we're alone.
The summer night closes in on us,
And we're on our own.

The fire is slowly burning.
It's glow lights the night.
No one else is here to see it,
But it's such a beautiful sight.
The fire is dancing all around,
And singing to us, too.
The fire in my heart feels just the same
Except its fuel is you.

The crickets crick in the background.
Darkness stalks the night,
But the stars look upon us with favor
And there can only be delight.

The fire watches, though it will never tell
The things that it's seen.
The love we have for one another
Is just between you and me.

The fire is slowly burning.
It's glow lights the night.
No one else is here to see it,
But it's such a beautiful sight.
The fire is dancing all around,
And singing to us, too.
The fire in my heart feels just the same
Except its fuel is you.

The dawn isn't far from now,
And the fire sees the light.
We're awakened by its cheery glow
As it drives away the night.

We look at the world once again
And, though it's the same as before,
The heat is still there,
The light still shines,
And our love's just being born.

The fire is slowly dying,
And we're still sitting here side-by-side.
It wishes us luck, all we need,
And then lays down to die.
The fire has been a brief part of our lives,
And now that we're together
It will live every summer night
In our hearts, with us forever.
