Back Up

Next Time

Now that time has passed,
I look back on what I'd done
And my mistakes are clear and bright as day.
You know I dind't mean to hurt you
Though it makes no difference anyhow.
I just wonder how things would have worked out.

Next time I'll choose the right words to say.
Next time I'll get everything right.
Next time I won't cause another heartache.
Next time I won't lose sight.

And maybe next time love will be sweet
And the pain will drift away.
Next time I know we'll both do better
And we'll meet again another day.

All I see in your eyes now
Is a pain I know I caused,
But still I can't say I'm sorry.
Maybe what I did was wrong.
It sure doesn't feel right.
But it's the only thing I could have done.

Next time I know the script will change.
Next time I'll try a happy ending.
Next time life won't be the same.
Next time I'll stop the rending.

Next time I know that what I've learned
Will help another love live on.
Next time I know we'll both do better
And we'll cherish the moments gone.

Please try to see what I'm going through.
My heart was hurting, it seems, in every possible way.
I really don't want to hurt you,
But I know that I can't stay.

Please don't think I'm cruel.
It's the only thing I can do.
Though we've both loved and lost each other
One day we'll find another.

Next time the hurt may not be as bad.
Next time love could be true.
Next time life won't be as sad.
Next time. I'll always love you.

And maybe next time love will be sweet
And the pain will ease away.
Next time I know we'll both do better,
And we'll meet again another day.
