Let The Clouds Roll In

Didn't I say
Your smile lit up the night?
Didn't I tell you
How much I wanted to hold you tight?
Didn't we share
The good times as well as the bad?
Didn't I cry
When you came to me so sad?

I remember how you laughed when I was with you.
I can still feel the warmth of your beaming face.
I held you while the storm was breaking over you.
Don't you recall that the thunder left without a trace?

Now here I stand.
The wind is beginning to blow.
The sun is fading,
And the tears are ready to flow.
Didn't you say
You'd felt the pull of the tide?
Didn't I mention
How I felt for you inside?

There you go with barely a word said in kindness.
Here they come billowing across the sky.
Here I stand, wallowing around in blindness.
There falls a drop, and I don't yet even know why.

Let the clouds roll in.
Hide the sun away.
Let the rain pour down.
Clean the open wounds.
Let the thunder roar. Let the lightning burn.
Let the skies cry out in pain.
Carry to her the sounds of a world dying
As I stand here alone in the rain.

Do you not hear with each echo of thunder
The sobs that are wracking my body with pain?
Can you not see with each flash of the lightning
The tears that are rolling down my face like rain?

Do you not understand what you have done?
I gave to you everything I could give.
Now here I stand all alone in the storm
Trying to understand and continue to live.

The sky is now grey and the ground is a mild stream.
My sins are washed away to a further and fertile land.
Somewhere I know above the storm is a waiting beam,
Someone to show that they're willing to give a hand.

I know that nothing can last forever,
But that applies to the bad as well as the good.
Today I may be crying,
But tomorrow I'll be laughing,
And the sun will come out as I knew it would.

Let the clouds roll in.
Hide the sun away.
Let the rain pour down.
Clean the open wounds.
Let the thunder roar. Let the lightning burn.
Let the skies cry out in pain.
Carry to her the sounds of a world dying
As I stand here alone in the rain.

Let the thunder roar. Let the lightning burn.
Let the skies cry out in pain.
Carry to her the sounds of a world dying
As I stand here alone in the rain.
