Many times have I seen a man in love,
But never have I known a man so true.
I met him on the road to the City of Gold.
He was walking away
The wrong way.
He told me his name was Jeremiah,
And he told me he had found his dream.
He was going to find the love he had left behind,
And he was walking away.
The City was the other way.
Jeremiah, do you know what you are doing?
Do you know what you're leaving behind?
Jeremiah, do you truly love her like you say?
And does she still love you?
He told me about the City.
"There," he said, "you're fantasies abound.
It was the best time of my life,
But I can't stay.
I'm going away."
"Jeremiah," I told him, "why are you doing this?
Come back and you'll find happiness."
"Son," he said, "I'm just a man in love
Off to find my fantasy
Just the way it must be."
Jeremiah, why'd you throw away your happiness?
Why are you walking away?
Do you think love will give you what you believe?
Or do you know it can't be so?
Jeremiah, don't throw you life away
For a love that can't survive.
Come back with me to reality,
And give love another try.
He never heard a word I said;
He just continued on his path.
And so I dedicate his memory
To the hopeless loves.
I know he does.
Jeremiah, why'd you throw away your happiness?
Love didn't keep you alive.
Jeremiah, have you found your fantasy
Living in another life?
Jeremiah, you taught me a lesson
I never wanted to learn:
Love can not only fuse two people together,
It can also burn.
And that's tale of Jeremiah.
He threw his life away for love.
Yet I wonder, if he were here today
Would he still walk away?
I cannot say.
Jeremiah, did you know what you were doing?
Jeremiah, did you know what lay ahead?
Jeremiah, why'd you throw away your life
For a hopeless love instead.
Jeremiah, why'd you run from reality?
You know, your fantasy couldn't come true.
But you just said you were a man in love,
And just walked away.
The wrong way.
