The Bodiford House (1897-1898)

216 Northeast Third Street
Gainesville, Florida

This large Eastlake Victorian was built by James S. Bodiford, a prominent druggist in Gainesville from 1892 to 1934. The house remained in the family until 1963. During the 1970's, HGI saved the house from demolition, and in 1981 Juan and Giovanna Holbrook restored it and converted it into four apartments. Of particular note are the wrap-around porch with a gazebo corner and a two-story bay window on the south side. Diamond-patterned fishscale siding on the second floor balcony and the intersecting gables contribute to its Victorian character.
