Daisy Girl Scouts, 1986-1987 Our troop began as a Daisy Girl Scout Troop in October 1986. We were invested as Girl Scouts on December 1, 1986. Trips during the year included the Devil's Millhopper, Morningside Nature Center, and Paynes Prairie. We also participated in the Gainesville Girl Scout 75th Anniversary Celebration. We earned the Florida Wetlands patch, completed activities for our World Association Pin -- and bridged to Brownie Girl Scouts! Brownie Girl Scouts, 1987-1988 We were now Brownies and enjoyed our participation in Council events: Boomerang at White Springs and a Brownie Fun Day at Seminole Springs Girl Scout Camp. We also visited the Santa Fe Zoo. Members of the troop were able to complete seven Brownie Try-Its: Play, Girl Scout Ways, People of the World, Numbers and Shapes, Colors and Shapes, Music, and Outdoor Fun. Brownie Girl Scouts, 1988-1989 In our second year as Brownies we took a field trip to Paynes Prairie in the fall. We also participated in the Weco Afro-American Event. Members of the troop had the opportunity to earn the following Brownie Try-Its: Dancercize, Movers, Puppets, and Plants and Animals. We earned the Council's Black Culture patch. During the summer we also earned the Outdoor Happenings patch. Brownie Girl Scouts, 1989-1990 We had a great year as third-year Brownies! We participated in the Brownie Lock-in at the Jacksonville Museum as well as the Weco Neighborhood Brownie Fun Day. We camped out for the first time as a troop at Girl Scout Camp Kateri in April. At the end of the year we attended Animals A-Z at the Jacksonville Zoo. Our program allowed us the opportunity to earn the following Try-Its: Food Fun, Science Magic, Manners, Careers, Art to Wear, Sports and Games, and Safety. We "flew up" to Junior Girl Scouts at the end of the year; we also "bridged" to Juniors, earning the Science Sleuth badge. Junior Girl Scouts, 1990-1991 We're now Juniors and participated in another museum lock-in: Dinosnore at the Florida Museum of Natural History here in Gainesville. We also attended Business-Wise training, the International Thinking Day Celebration, "Many Faces, Many Places" (We represented Spain.), the Weco neighborhood campout ("Find Fitness Fun"), our own troop campout at Camp Kateri, and the Girl Scout events in St. Augustine. Badges and patches for the year were: Business-Wise, Wildlife, St. Augustine, Art in the Home, First Aid, Out of Doors Dabbler, Art to Wear, Jeweler, and the Sign of the Rainbow. We also earned the Be a Reader patch and sold Girl Scout cookies for the first time door to door. We camped at Camp Kateri and finished the year with a trip to Wild Waters. During the summer we earned the Flora, Fauna, Florida patch. Junior Girl Scouts, 1991-1992 We visited the Crystal River Power Place, attended the Native American Pow-Wow at the Florida Museum of Natural History, and a Council campout at Camp Kateri, 50/50 . . . Looking Forward, Looking Back. (We enjoyed the sock hop.) We participated in the Weco campout, "Love-In: People, Earth Self." We finished the year with a trip to Busch Gardens in Tampa. The troop provided opportunities for earning the following: Art in the Round, Native People, Communications, Looking Your Best (We really enjoyed visiting the hairdressers.), Dabbler-Arts, Sign of the World, and Junior Aide. During the summer we earned the Folk Art badge and the Hot Summer Art! patch. Junior Girl Scouts, 1992-1993 Our last year as Juniors was a busy one! We participated in multi-troop events: Cootie Knots & High Fashion, Weco Environmental Action Day, the Columbus 500 Camp-In at the Florida Museum of Natural History, and Discover St. Augustine. We also had a great troop campout to Fort Clinch -- the nighttime tour of the fort being a highlight. We also camped at Anastasia Island in May. Our badges and patches for the year were: World Neighbors, Ready for Tomorrow, Aerospace, and Sign of the Satellite. A service project was cleaning the outdoor area around the Gainesville Girl Scout Hut, and we watched the filming of TV-20 News. We bridged to Cadette Girl Scouts, earning the Artistic Crafts Cadette/Senior patch -- and ended the year with a sleep-over/pizza party. Cadette Girl Scouts, 1993-1994 We're now in seventh grade and in Cadette Girl Scouts. We did a lot of camping this year -- four three-day camping trips.. We had a great camping trip to F.D.R. State Park in Georgia in October. We participated in a neighborhood camping program at Camp Kateri (Festival of Nations) -- assisting in the program as Cadette Girl Scouts -- in February. We camped at Gold Head Branch State Park in March. We assisted at the sixth-grade bridging camp at Seminole Springs in May. We're now earning Cadette recognitions: Photography and Folk Art were completed this year. We attended a Lady Gator Basketball game and ended the year with a slumber party in St. Augustine! Cadette Girl Scouts, 1994-1995 We liked our trip to FDR State Park (and White Springs) so much we camped there again this fall. This time we did not get "rained out" as one tent did last year! We also visited Plains, Georgia. We camped at Oleno State Park in March -- we did some biking on this campout! We worked on the following patches and awards: Cadette Leadership, Dreams to Realities, and Games. As we had in previous years, we participated in the Helping Hands service project and, of course, sold cookies. At the end of the school year we again had a sleep-over in St. Augustine -- sights, beach, and shopping. Cadette Girl Scouts, 1995-1996 We had a great trip to Universal Studios in Orlando in the fall. How many times can a person ride on Back to the Future? We worked on the following: Cadette Challenge and Creative Cooking, and we successfully bridged to Senior Girl Scouts!! We took a three-day trip to the Juliette Gordon Low Birthplace in Savannah. A highlight was a period dinner at the home. We also saw many of the other sights of Savannah for a wonderful end-of-the-school-year/briding to Seniors trip. Senior Girl Scouts, 1996-1997 We started the year with a shopping trip to St. Augustine. We then worked on the following: Audiovisual Production -- Basic, Audiovisual Production -- Advanced, and Emergency Preparedness. A highlight was a tour of the four broadcast stations at the University of Florida, WUFT-FM and WUFT-AM, WRUF-AM, and WRUF-FM. We produced a video on "Bike Safety." Our end-of-the-year trip was to Atlanta, Georgia -- where we visited Six Flags, the Coca-Cola Museum, Planet Hollywood, and Stone Mountain. Senior Girl Scouts, 1997-1998 We worked on the following: Tune in to Well-Being, Senior Career Exploration, Senior Leadership, and Senior Challenge. A highlight of the Career Exploration project was a career day of interviews of faculty and administrators at the University of Florida. Two of our members are bridging to Adult Girl Scouting this year. They have been scouts for 12 and 13 years! Congratulations. Senior Girl Scouts, 1998-1999 In December we had a great trip to Busch Gardens in Tampa. Three
members are finishing their Gold Award projects. Our troop will be
graduating to adult Girl Scouts at the end of the summer.
