A Fish Tale

GOFC angler Bob Rella is not noted for reticence. His volubility is a tribute to his Italian ancestry, and in stressful situations his choice of words may take on a bluish tinge that is downright creative in coining new terms for expressing frustration.

Now picture this situation. We've risen at 5 AM, driven 80 miles to Steinhatchee, caught pinfish, found the right marker, and Bob hooks a massive cobia. In a rare cooperative mood, the fish makes its first run away from the barnacle-studded marker. Bob's hopes are mountain-top high, and he's talking to the fish, urging it to continue on its original course.

Suddenly the fish doubles back and makes an unstoppable run directly at the marker. "Oh nooooo," shrieks Bob. The cobia gets back to its lair, and a barnacle reaches out its razor-sharp finger and cuts the line.

Bob nearly loses his balance as the doubled-over rod straightens out, and he screams this dreadful curse: "Powww-eeee!"

Now that's creativity!
