The Gainesville Hash House Harriers (GH3) got its official start on Friday, October the 13th,1989 with Stud Muffin as its Grand Master. We are commonly known as "Hashers". The motto of this worldwide organization is, "We are a drinking club with a running problem".
GH3 consists mainly of college students, and many professionals from around the Gainesville area with numbers ranging from 10-20 on a bi-weekly basis. Numbers are usually higher during special events and when football season is over. We sometimes run twice weekly, especially when we have a full moon. Hashing is fashioned after the British game "Hounds and Hares" with the "Hares" laying the trail(usually with flour) and the "Hounds" following it. Hashing got its humble beginning in 1938 in Kuala Lumpur. The historical events surrounding the beginning of hashing varies by who tells the story.
