Insider's information about concert costs: The 60 singers of the Master Chorale volunteer their time (960 to 1200 rehearsal hours per concert) as well as more than $4,500 per season in dues and music costs. The minimal cost for a ticketed concert is about $8,000; with a large orchestra and soloists, the cost could run to more than $12,000. There are also costs for the "Messiah" sing along, which GCC absorbs as a community service. Our concert hall has room for a much larger audience, and this season we are making determined efforts to fill it. It is a wonderful feeling, singing together and being in harmony with others. It is all the more joyous to share this in the company of all our well-wishers and friends of choral music. Even if we achieve these goals, we will need, for each concert, several thousands of dollars from contributions and grants to balance our books.
