Singing in the Gainesville Civic Chorus is an opportunity to refine your
vocal technique and experience the joy of singing great choral works in
a large chorus. The Chorus is continually seeking qualified singers for
the soprano, alto, tenor and bass voice parts. All Chorus members are
members of the Master Chorale.
The rehearsals of the Master Chorale are Monday evenings from 7:00 to 9:00 PM. Dress rehearsals and occasional extra rehearsals are scheduled for the week prior to the performance at the conductor's discretion. There are annual dues (currently $75) and music is included. Some music will be on loan. However, it is our policy not to exclude anyone who is otherwise qualified to join because of membership costs. There is also a concert dress requirement. Details will be provided at the time of audition. Membership in the Master Chorale is by audition only. The audition consists of three parts, lasts about ten minutes and is only in the presence of the conductor and accompanist. Candidates may come with a prepared piece of music of your own choice but it is not required. The piece can be as simple as a hymn or folk song or as accomplished as an aria. This prepared song should demonstrate your vocal talent at its best. The Gainesville Civic Chorus provides an accompanist so please bring two copies of your music - one for you and one for the accompanist. The conductor will ask the candidate to perform a few simple vocal exercises to determine the voice range and quality. Also, the candidate will be asked to sight read a short piece of music with the assistance of the accompanist. Due to our limited rehearsal time reading ability is important. Come and join us for a great experience in choral music.
