This hands on workshop is designed for search
and rescue responders that have completed a basic rappelling/Rope rescue
course. The seminar will build upon those skills taking the student from
basic knot reviews to fixed wall rappelling, bridge/vertical drop rappelling and
then helicopter rappelling and hoist operations.
Responders that have canines will be instructed
on how to properly rappel with their canines. Depending on the canines
temperament the handler may be able to rappel with the canine, this will be
determined at the time of the class based on the canines reactions and
temperament.
Each student must provide their own NFPA
approved rescue rappelling harness and a rappelling harness that fits their
canine.
At the completion of this seminar the student
will be capable of tying the family of eight knots, have an awareness level of
anchor systems, be capable of safely rappelling from a fix wall structure, be
capable of safely rappelling from bridges and objects with no fixed wall
surface, be capable of safely rappelling from a hovering helicopter and have an
awareness level of training in helicopter hoist operations.
The rappel-masters for this seminar are U.S.
Army, Air Assault School certified. When in doubt all decisions in this
seminar will be made to the side of safety and the rappel master has the final
say in all safety related issues.
