Sent: 3/25/2004 9:41 PMHi Htters,
Sometimes in this column we have been known to wax philosophical about
the meaning of life, or not, and other things, or nothings. Other times
we merely wane pathetically. Well, this is neither of those times,
except from once more, again, with a certain redundancy, restating the
obvious, that being "Life is change" or alternatively "Change is life"
or "Is life change?" or "Is change life?" . Whatever. The case in
point - and we do not wish to wax eloquent, or not, about the long list
of restaurants that have either closed down or imploded after we have
begun to settle in and call them our Friday night home - but getting
back to the point in case, there is a general consensus amongst the
gatherers at Cafe Cabana that, although the beer is great, the food is
OK most of the time, the ambiance appropriate, and the comings and
goings of all the wait staff an interesting topic of conversation, the
time has come to move, specifically across the road to La Tienda Latina
at 2204 SW 13th Street. Which of course you all remember as the place
that we have been threatening to go to for some time . And now that
their renovations are complete and there does seem to be enough room, we
have decided to go for it. You can even pick yourselves up a pair of
genuine Mexican cowboy boots while you are there, or maybe even a
genuine Mexican cowboy! The menu offers some intriguing items - such as
SP#1 Mole Verde O RoJo $5.50 which is described as "Chicken Mole served
with Mexican Rice and Refried Beans " The mind boggles. This place
will definitely NOT break your bank account.Meanwhile, back on the trail, we don't know who started it (probably The
Lance) but the nucular arms race of biking equipment is really heating
up. We used to be a pack of Fat Tire Addicts (FTA's) but then the evil
demon of speed-luster (or maybe the even worse demon of cool-gearhead)
started taking over and now there are skinny tires all over the place.
So, in a couple of weeks we plan to move our event to San Felasco to
slow things down to an easy fat tire roll once more. Yea, that's the
ticket - a nice relaxing roller coaster down Tung Nut.However, there are still some of us (those with fat tires under their
more-relaxed frames) who still take the time to stop and smell the
flowers, or at least take a picture or two. And in an effort to promote
what is really the essence of our Friday night experiences, we are
offering a once-in-a-lifetime occasion to publish any other photos right
here. Well, OK, they do have to be taken on the trail, and have some
redeeming social value, or otherwise. At this point we would like to give our heart-felt apologies to Fritz,
who was so ecstatic about the recent HTT emails since they were so short
that he could actually finish reading them. Mainly, we are sorry cuz we
know that there is absolutely no way that Fritz is still reading this
and so has missed out on his moment in the sunshine, his 15 minutes if
fame, his Icarus soaring into solar oblivion. So, get your fat tires out, and join the flower people while the weather
is still as friendly as our hills.5:15 at Kate's; 7:15 at La Tienda.
See you on the trail,
Ewen & Nancy.
