Free Radio Gainesville Lives #3

Hey radio listeners. Here's my third attempt at trying to keep you informed of the news and events at Free Radio Gainesville, 94.7 FM.

94.7 FM

I had a great time with Amanda Garrigues in-the-studio this past Sunday. We gabbed about her music, the local scene, the 97-X crisis and she played a few songs LIVE. We also heard a song from her forthcoming CD and an old one from her days with Big Shoals Tract. Thanks for coming Amanda!

Remember that Pop Canon will be with me LIVE on Sunday, March 1st from 5-6pm (see LOCAL SCENE below).

On the new show front, the Free Radio Gainesville Collective is currently entertaining a proposal from a member of Gainesville's queer community to do a hour's worth of news news and music from the gay/lesbian/bisexual/transgender community. Stay tuned to FRG and this newsletter for more information.

RADICAL NEWS HOUR

With the impending war in Iraq, we will be begin broadcasting starting at 5pm this Wednesday (Febr. 25th) with the Radical News Hour. This early start time was originially intended to start at the same time as the street demonstration to protest the U.S. military buil-up in Iraq. It looks like now, the demo has been called off since a deal has been struck with Iraq to inspect their arms (& legs).

We'll still go on at 5pm, however, because there has been a LOT of anti-war activity around the country that we'd like to share with you.

Whether you'd like to believe it or not, the anti-war organizing and activities that have been going around the U.S. and the rest of the world DID contribute to the breakthrough deal. The U.S., however, is continuing to build-up it's military force and we must be ready at a moments notice to raise our voices in protest if they fabricate a reason to use their military. Stay tuned to Free Radio Gainesville for the latest information.

LOCAL SCENE

I had to mention a great show that I actually was able to stay up for until the end! Squeaky, the Crustaceans, Mower and a surf-outfit called Slow Motion Milkshake gave a great show at the Hardback Caf on Saturday night. Squeaky came across with a lot more power in the small space at the Hardback and was complemented well by the other bands.

Again, be sure to catch Pop Canon performing LIVE in-the-studio this coming Sunday, March 1st from 5-6pm. Then, you can swagger on down to the Market Street Pub next Thursday, March 5 for three sets of their euclidian magic. Also, check out their extensive web page at http://www.purplefrog.com/~popcanon/

That's it for now. Please let me know if you would not like to be receive this email newsletter or if you want to add someone else to it. My address is cmc@afn.org.
