Fourth Annual Florida Prison Action Network
"Tally Rally"

Monday  April 2, 2001

The 2001 Florida Prison Action Network Information Project is scheduled for Monday, April 2, 2001, at the Capitol Rotunda in Tallahassee.  This is the fourth annual event and, as always, we hope to see people come out in large numbers to show their support for their loved ones in prison.

This event is primarily designed to showcase positive family programs and bring family-unfriendly programs to the attention of our legislators.  We usually reserve rooms at Shoney's Inn and hope to reserve the meeting room for the night before.  This should give everyone plenty of time to arrange for time
off and transportation to and from the event.

We invite groups to contact FPAN (which is simply a term to cover the many groups working throughout the state).  This is not an event where, with the exception of the death penalty, sentencing and conviction issues are addressed.

The purpose is to convince the government that positive prison programs, humane treatment of prisoners and family members, transitional and family reintegration services, and things in that vein are brought to the attention of legislators who tend to demonize families as well as prisoners.

Rooms are reserved at Shoney's Inn, 2801 N. Monroe Street, Tallahassee, FL  1-800-222-2222.  Directions: Take I-10 to exit 29, Route 27 (also called N. Monroe Street).  Turn left.  Shoney's Inn is a few miles down on the left.  The Capitol is a few miles further on the right.

FLIP chapters, FPLP, and others have had displays highlighting, for example, high vending machine prices and terrible food and drink selections.  Groups wishing to have a table, including prisoner lifer, toastmaster, or similar service groups are also welcome,  and should send a copy of their mission statement to:
