The Florida Network of Youth and Family Services

The Florida Network of Youth and Family Services (FNYFS) is a not-for-profit agency, which represents 42 human services agencies which provide services to children and families. Headquartered in Tallahassee, the FNYFS assists agencies with training and program development and helps agencies stay informed regarding legislative initiatives and related budget issues.

Florida Network agencies provide services to families with adolescents who have run away, who are not going to school, or who are hard to manage at home. These agencies provide services through temporary shelters for children under the age of 18 who need time out from the home environment. At the shelters, youth receive individual, group, and family counseling, as well as participate in life skills and education and recreational activities.

The FNYFS also maintains the nation’s only statewide 1.800.RUNAWAY Hotline. Staffed by professionals at Family Resources in St. Petersburg, this telephone hotline helps children who have problems or who have runaway, by referring them to the FNYFS shelter nearest them. The goal of the Hotline is to help youth get off the streets where they are most at-risk for victimization.

The FNYFS also maintains a 1.888.4.1.FAMILY Hotline for parents. Mandated by the 1997 Florida Legislature, this Hotline receives a substantial number of calls from parents throughout Florida.

With the motto "Improving the State of Our Children," the FNYFS remains dedicated to guiding adolescents and their families into the 21st Century.

For information about participating in the Florida District partnership with the FNYFS, call your local shelter (a list is included in this booklet), your Lieutenant Governor, Governor Derek Pettigrew, Administrator Sam Welker, or your Zone Advisor.
