FCORN Services & Committees

Our Nominating Committee is elected by the members of FCORN to seek out those members who show leadership potential. Any member of FCORN who is interested in serving in an elected office should copy the Willingness to Serve form, and send it to the Chair: Nominating Committee, currently  Keving Metzing.

Any member of FCORN who is interested in volunteering to serve on a committee or as Committee Chair should copy the Willingness to Volunteer form and send it to the FCORN Chair, currently Linda Timmons.

Any professional association must operate with a structure defined by its By-laws, and guided by Policy.  If you are a member of another professional association or a new State Council just starting up and are looking for assistance in this area, please contact either:

Stephanie C. Reitman-Swiss or the FCORN Webmaster for copies of our Bylaws.

The Florida Council Ways and Means Committee offers several items in our LogoLine for sale to help provide funding for our mission. If you are interested in these items, contact the FCORN Webmaster for additional information.
Newsletter

We publish the FCORN Newsletter three times yearly, with notices regarding the business meetings, their associated educational seminars, and information pertinent to Perioperative Nursing on a national and state level. We accept submissions from anyone with information they believe would be of interest to Florida Perioperative Registered Nurses. Please use this link for an Article Submission guideline form.

Subscriptions to the FCORN Newsletter are $10.00 for one year, or $25.00 for three years.

For Newsletter article submissions, or for Newsletter subscription information, please contact: Winsome Miller, RN, FCORN Newsletter Editor

Continuing Education

FCORN holds a Florida Board of Nursing approved Provider Number 2871 to serve Perioperative Registered Nurse's continuing education needs. For information about educational sessions, see the Calendar of Upcoming Events

Additionally, each year members of FCORN present at the Florida Student Nurses Association Convention on a variety of topics related to Perioperative Nursing.

The Scholarship Committee administers several scholarship funds which help support Florida nursing students pursuing advanced degrees (Clifford Jordan), as well as entry level nursing programs (Gerri Helwig). Follow these Scholarship links to a section where you can copy the application forms for these scholarships. Please note that they are in three file formats: Word for Windows 6.0, WordPerfect for Windows 6.0, and Rich Text Format.

For additional information about these scholarships, please contact

Connie Hammond, Scholarship Committee Chair.

Heritage: all work and no play makes for nursing burn-out; all play and no work is unprofessional. Our Heritage Committee works to keep a record of our Perioperative professional accomplishments as well as highlights of some of our more memorable meetings.
Industry/Advisory Council: Kate Moses, Kevin Metzing, and Jim Marriott currently chair this council/committee. For more information about the Industry/Advisory Council, please follow this link (or use the ones at the bottom of the page).
Registered Nurse First Assistants: Perioperative nursing practice historically includes the role of the RN as an assistant at surgery. AORN officially recognized this role as a component of perioperative nursing in 1983 and adopted the first Official Statement on RN First Assistants (RNFA) in 1984. State Boards of Nursing recognize the RNFA role within the scope of nursing practice. FCORN's RNFA committee seeks to provide continuing education offerings specific to the needs of RNFA's (in collaboration with the Education Committee), and as a clearing house for information affecting the practice of RNFA's. Please see our Suggested Links page for links to the Association of Florida Registered Nurse First Assistants (AFRNFA).
The Professional Nursing Research Committee helps support scientific research into patient treatments, nursing care modalities, and the role of the Professional Perioperative Registered Nurse. We are usually involved in several research projects. For further information, contact Robin Chard.
