West Coast Swing is a very popular, as well as extremely versatile dance.
West Coast is recognizable by its signature “elastic” look as well as its "slotted” nature
and is regularly danced to nearly every genre of music.
When attending a West Coast Swing dance, it is common to hear Blues, Country,
Hip-Hop, classic R&B and Pop all in the same dance set. It is also danced to a large variety of tempos –
from 80 to 130 beats per minute – which can change the style and feel of the dance dramatically.
At slower tempos the dance is sultry and playful; at faster tempos it can be dynamic and flashy,
all adding to the amazing variety of this dance. West Coast Swing also allows the woman immense freedom
to improvise, as well as even "lead" in certain situations.
Joshua Angel & Sandi Larkins teach West Coast Swing.
