The Board of Directors is the policy making body of the Association. Members of the Board are chosen by popular vote from each ATA Section of the United States and the Caribbeans. The current ATA Sections as stipulated by the 1991 revised copy of the constitution and bylaws are:
Members of the board are assigned to various committees which are designed to set goals, establish policy, programs and activities for final approval by the general board. Standing committees are: Junior Development, Marketing and Public Relations, Membership, Fundraising, Budget/Finance, Sanction/Schedule, Tournament, Planning and Development, Auditing, Volunteers, and Constitution.
Each committee is under the directions of an Executive Committee member. Committee chairs and members are selected by the president based on their expertise, skills and the willingness to serve and work for the American Tennis Association.
