The Maddox Foundry Whistle... This family owned industry was founded by Hittup Maddox, from Ft. Valley Georgia, who came to Archer a penniless young man in 1892. Married to Pearl Groves of Morriston in 1903, they saved money and in June 1905 the Maddox Foundry and Machine Works opened a small building on rented land. By the 1930's Maddox Foundry was one of the south's outstanding heavy machine works. There was a large expansion during World War II. The factory still operates today. Built in 1906, Baldwin Locomotive No. 3 was restored in 1960 by Maddox Foundry and Machine Works. Return To Archer Businesses Page 1
