On January 7, the University of Florida stopped recognizing the unions that employees elected to represent them and the contracts that the unions negotiated. The University claims that a re-organization means it no longer has to negotiate terms and conditions of employment. On January 10, they announced proposed personnel rule changes that would make it easier to fire employees and that would eliminate rights employees have had for decades. Legal actions have been filed by AFSCME and by the faculty and law enforcement unions.
