Samuel Gaddy

    NOTES from Gary Hale gaddy.ged
in the 1830 Census of Lincoln County, Tennessee, Samuel Gaddy had 5 sons, ages 5-10 and 3 daughters under 5 and 10-15. He was listed as being 30-40 and his wife was listed as 20-30.
In the 1840 Census of Lincoln County, Tennessee, he had 3 sons and 3 daughters. He was 40-50 and his wife was 30-40.
In the 1850 Census of Tishomingo County, Mississippi, his wife had either died or was not with him there. He had 5 children in the household: Jasper A., Thomas J., Martha J., Mary E. and Francis M.
No Will has been located for Samuel Gaddy in Tishomingo County, Mississippi as the courthouse burned around 1873. However, the county was divided before the fire and the clerk made copies of the records for the other counties. Alcorn County is sa id to have a copy of the former Tishomingo County records, but a check of the Will index and Deed index did not reveal a Will or Deed relating to a Gaddy. Other information from descendants states that he died either around Denver, Arkansa s or in Lawrence County, Missouri but nothing has been found either place. Unfortunately, the courthouse in Carroll County, Arkansas also burned around the same time as the one in Mississippi, so it's also unlikely that anything will be found there, either.
In 1830, Samuel Gaddy was listed as being in Captain Claiborne Ruth's Company on Bradshaw Creek. Samuel owned 120 acres of land. Bradshaw Creek enters Lincoln County on the West from Giles County and would place Samuel's land closer to Giles tha n Bedford County. It is about 15 miles West of Fayetteville, Tennessee.
[The following information concerning Samuel Gaddy, son of Thomas Gaddy is from "Chancery Court Records of Bedford County, Tennessee" compiled by Timothy R. & Helen C. MARSH and is found on pages 232-33 of that book. It was extracted from page 269 of Chancery Court Record Book 1854 - 1856- 1858.]
