Born in Chicago IL, moved with family to Miami, FL, and Atlanta GA., Family came to Florida and moved into Aunt Lillians home in Hawthorne on the Lake. Don attended school at UF, married Janice Watkins and had 2 children. After graduation they moved to West Virginia (Charleston and Huntington). After a year or 2 there they moved to Lexington, KY. After a short while there, Janice and the children moved back to Florida. Don moved to a bigger home and the family returned for about a month (Deborah was starting 2nd grade) Janice and children then moved back to Florida permanently. Don stayed in KY. They were divorced soon after. Don married Bess Grinell shortly after the divorce was final. They remained in KY until 1997 when they moved to Pomona Park, Florida to be closer to Don's mother.
Donald T. MacClellan Jr.
Donald Thomas MacClellan Jr., 69, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, Aug. 6, 2002, at North (Florida) Regional Medical Center in Gainesville.
Born in Chicago, he graduated from Grady High School in Atlanta in 1951 and earned his bachelor's degree in chemical engineering from the University of Florida. He also received a master's degree in theology at The Lexington Theological Seminary. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict, having served his country with the U.S. Army. He was the past president and life member of the Lexington Jaycees; past president of TI99 Computer Association. He was also a member of ASHRA. He was a member, elder and served in numerous communities of the Presbytery of St. Augustine. He worked as a chemical engineer for the Columbia Gas Company for 36 years. Following his retirement in 1997, he and his wife moved to Pomona Park from Lexington.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ellie Jean and Donald T. MacClellan Sr.
He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Bess M. MacClellan, Pomona Park; daughters, Brenda G. Jones, Palatka, and Deborah R. Powell (James), Waldo; son, Marshall E. MacClellan (Christy), Grand Falls, Mont.; sisters, Kathleen Purcell (Bill), Lauringburg, N.C., Nancy Sears (Ray), Louisville, Ky., Myra Jill Busch (Jim), Hawthorne; brother, Edward MacClellan (Lou Ann), Palatka; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral service was 1 p.m. Friday, Aug. 9, 2002, at First Presbyterian Church in Crescent City, with Pastor Dean Veltman officiating. There was private family services for burial and interment at Ochwilla Cemetery in Hawthorne.
The family received friends and family at the church from 11 a.m. to the time of service Friday.
At the family's request, those who wish may make memorial contributions to the Donald T. MacClellan Memorial at First Presbyterian Church, 301 E. Cypress Ave., Crescent City, FL 32112.
