Welcome to Adam Marchese's Press Your Luck
Interesting Facts Page!
This page contains some interesting facts about Press Your Luck that
you may or may not have known :).
In 1984, during the Jim/Mimi/Mark game, Mimi is down almost $10,000
to Jim 's $17,550 and is passed 3 spins. She then blesses herself
with the Sign of the Cross, and comes back to win over $21,000!!! Pretty
cool!
- Not one time did PYL have 3 men or 3 women on the show at one time.
You could often tell if a man or a woman was the returning champion
because there would USUALLY be 2 women if a woman was the returning champ
and 2 men if a man was the returning champ. Most of the time, this
was the case.
- The light seemed to move slower after the board patterns changed after
the Michael Larson episode for a couple of months until the patterns changed
again.
- Pick A Corner worked ONLY in the mid-1984 episodes. When it first
appeared on the board, some possibilites of the corners were $2000, $1000+,
$1750 and $2500, $1000+, $2250. Finally someone noticed this and
replaced the $2000 and $2500 in square 10 with prizes, which made it possible
to pick $1750. However, in mid-85, $2000/Lose 1 whammy was put into
square #15, which made for the possibility $1400, $2000/L1W, Prize. Then
2 prizes in #10 were replaced with $1250 and $1400, which screwed it up
even more making $500+, $2000/L1W, or $1250. It didn't make much
sense to pick $1250 over $2000 :).
- Some squares never, or very seldom, showed up together. Such
squares included Pick A Corner and one of the squares in #10. Two
times, in the Larson episodes, I did see the $750s in #5 and #7 appear
at the same time. One of the squares in #15, the prize before 1985,
$2000/L1W during 1985, and $500+ after 1985, never showed up with one of
the squares in #1, $2250 before & during 1985, $1400 in early 1986,
and $750 in mid-86.
- The board was actually a set of 18 screens at which 54 slide projectors
were pointed?
- Each slide projector was capable of holding a total of six slides,
meaning that each prize square could be rotated to show 6 prizes?
