May 18, 1999 - We've got a slab!
Heather called on Monday to let me know that Clay Electric
finally got out the site and set up the lines so we can get power to the
construction site. It will be a pain having to pay the bills and
then get reimbursed, but what else do you expect from a "cooperative" electric
company?
Ed said to expect the slab pour today, but I certainly
didn't. Heather called this morning to tell me that the concrete
was there and getting poured. I was really surprised that something
went as scheduled!
I couldn't make it out to the site until after class and
by then the slab was poured. All that was left was a couple of guys
doing the final smoothing on the slab.
Joe left for Orlando on business at 6AM this morning and
didn't get home until 10:30PM. He was really surprised that we had
a slab. Good thing I took some pictures.
 |
By now you should know that this is the front of the
house. The garage is on the left, and it was poured wrong.
More on that later... |
 |
Okay, more on the garage now. The main house slab was supposed
to extend into the garage area a bit more. We planned to put the
hot water heater and other mechanical equipment on that extended area.
Ed says it won't be a problem to pour the extension and luckily it
won't hold up the start of framing. |
 |
Da back porch. No, I did not intentionally try for a butt shot
of the guy working...really.. |
 |
A nice shot of from the master bedroom across the breakfast nook/kitchen/family
room to the kids' side of the house |

The kids' side of the house. |

Our newly installed electric meter. Look closely...all the indicators
are on 0... |

The top of our temporary power pole, installed by the electrian which
is connected to.... |

 |
It's tough to get a full shot of house with any detail. The only
way you can tell that there's a slab in this shot is to compare the picture
with one after the fill - the color is different. |
The trusses are already built and the framing crew
is scheduled to begin their work on Monday or Tuesday. Everyone tells
me that things really start to happen during framing...
