May 15, 1999 - Well, has anything new happened?

Sorry folks.  Not much has happened since April in terms of work on the house.  Lots of other stuff has been going on though:

The plumbing rough in has been completed and the slab prep has finally begun.  Our builder finally got his slab guy to admit that there are four other slab pours ahead of ours (hence the delay).  The initial plumbing rough-in flunked inspection.  On top of that, the plumber forgot the rough-in for the future wet bar on the back porch, so he had to come back out and do that.

Our area is served by two utility companies.  One, my former (and Marji's current) employer, is Gainesville Regional Utilities (GRU).  I wrote a program for the old gas department, so I'm familiar with how GRU works with developers and arranges for services during construction.  Our builder is used to working with GRU.  We both agree that it's a relatively painless process for everyone.  Unfortunately, our utility is Clay Electric Cooperative.  They refused to allow Ed to set up a temporary account to arrange for service during construction.  Instead, I had to set up the account and pay for the whole thing.  Ed has to reimburse us since we're the ones who will be getting billed.

My car was in the shop from last Thursday to yesterday, so today was the first day I could get out and take pictures.  Not really anything new...

The back porch, almost prepped for the slab.  The piles of dirt are not part of the porch.
The master suite side of the house.  the red & white & blue stuff are the plumbing rough-in.  The area in the back with the brown 2x4s is the garage
The garage, and beyond, the front stoop.
The front door, plus extra junk from the footers and fill.
The kids side of the house.  The big PVC pipe on the right is the main line out to the septic tank.

According to our builder, the slab pour should occur next Tuesday, and framing should begin the end of next week.  Yeah, right.  I'll believe it when I see it.
