Poison Ivy Acre+

April 12, 1999 - Foundation Prep

Well today started and ended in a pattern that I think will become more common as the process continues.  I got a phone call from Heather (at a "reasonable" hour - bless her heart!) telling me that as she was pulling out of the parking lot this morning, she saw a bunch of guys working on the lot.  Last Friday, Ed told us that a crew would soon be out to do the "offical" house layout and prepare for the concrete footers.  Of course, I called a co-worker, told her to put a sign on my office door telling students I would be in at 10AM and rushed to the site to take pictures.  By the time I got there, stakes, boards and strings were up, and a bunch of guys were digging trenches.

I talked to the guy who was standing around doing nothing - must be in charge or something.  The other guys were digging trenches and laying rebar for the footings of the foundations.  According to him, the inspector should be out tomorrow to insure that the house is within the setbacks, and the footers poured and blocks laid out that afternoon.  Yeah, right...I'll believe it when I see it.

I spent a usual Monday (it's my long day), picked up fast food for our family and the Vahles, and drove out to get some early evening pictures.  I plan to stop by on my way home tomorrow afternoon, just to see if the stuff passed inspection and if any concrete is around...

Look!  Boards and stakes!

Hey!  Those guys are acutally doing something.  Is that normal on a construction site?

Anyway, this area is the front bedroom on the kids' (right) side of the house.  They're digging around what will probably be Sarah's room.

No guys working here.  This is the front left corner of the house - where the garage is located.
Here's the tow truck that made me very nervous on my drive from the site to school this morning.  The lighter thing is a vehicle sitting on top of the bed of truck.  It looked like it was falling off to the right.
Things looked a bit safer as I got closer.  The white sport utility is chained to the bed of the tow truck.  I just wish that they had lined it up a bit better.

Yes, I do need to clean my windshield.  New wiper blades would probably be nice.

For everyone's edification, this is the intersection of I-75 and Williston Road.

This is Olivia.  She is not happy about the following:
     1)  Sarah & MaKenzie are conducting a whirlwind trip about the neighborhood in wagons and she got left behind.
     2)  Daddy is talking to a stranger.  (It was the electrician who was setting the ground into the rebar)
     3)  Mommy won't go where she wants to go
The crew finally left after 6PM.  This is the right side of the house.  The kids' rooms, guest room and 2 bathrooms lie along the right edge.  Looks really small doesn't it...
This is the front entry of the house.  Well, actually it's more like the stoop, with the door slightly beyond.
Left side of the house.  That's the garage in front, with utility room, master bath and master bedroom beyond.
And here's a shot of Sarah and MaKenzie while we're trying to leave.  Both Kurt's and Olivia's legs are in this shot.  Can you guess where?  :)
