Plant City is located about an hour and a half south-west of Orlando taking Interstate 4. This town has special meaning to me even though I have only been there twice in my life. This area was the home of my paternal ancestors. In fact, at least three generations of Wood / Aldermans have lived in the Plant City / Lithia area.On this trip, I wanted to see something that linked my family to this quiet town . . . and I did. It took the form of an old red brick building. It was the Old Plant City High School, built in 1914. It was there my grandfather, Dr. Robert Garland Wood Jr. attended school over 70 years ago. Below is a photo of the high school today. Granted it is getting dark when I shot this. |

The Strawberry Festival attracts thousands of people. There are livestock competitions, petting zoos, live entertainment, carnival rides, and my favorite, make your own strawberry shortcake! And all around the festival's gates, farmers sell flats of fresh, ripe, hand-picked strawberries. |
