News From Dimension Rusty FAQ

Ever since I temporarily disabled the update page back in April, I've received a lot of e-mail asking me about it. When I made the decision to kill it once and for all, I decided it would be wise to set up this list of frequently asked questions so that all of those folks who followed the update page and my life on daily basis would have some answers to the questions in their heads.

What is/was News From Dimension Rusty?

News from Dimension Rusty was the update page here at the Nine Finger Monarchy. It originally started out with a dual purpose in mind. First, it was supposed to keep my regular visitors informed about changes I had made to the site. Secondly and perhaps more importantly, I wanted the update page to keep people abreast of what I was up to. I started the update page during the summer when I was all alone in Gainesville. Everyone that I knew had gone home for the summer. I wanted a convenient place for everyone to go to see what I was doing with my life.
Before too long, the update page become more personal. Instead of just writing about what I was doing, I started writing about what I was thinking and feeling. News from Dimension Rusty became a little window to my heart, bared for anyone who cared to see.

Is the update page gone for good?

Yes, the update page is in fact gone, and I don't think it will return.

Why?

There are a lot of reasons why. I'll try to summarize some of them. First of all, the update page was beginning to affect relationships with some of my friends since parts of their lives were also being published on the web. There was one particular incident that really made this problem clear to me.

Another big issue for me is the fact that the update page is no longer an original idea. The concept has been copied and imitated, and I've never been one to want to be like everyone else. When I started the page, the concept just kind of took off. The original concept was like nothing I saw other people doing. Judging from the response I've gotten, it apparently struck a chord with a lot of people. But still, it's being done elsewhere now. Time to leave it to the lemmings.

Also, there are some aspects of my life that I'd prefer to keep private now. Not being a person to half-ass a creative idea, I don't see the point in continuing the update page if I don't want to be totally open.

I thought that this was only a temporary thing. That's what you said before.

Yeah, and that was my original thought. At the time that I disabled the page back in April, I felt very uneasy. I felt like the whole thing was kind of spinning out of control. One of my friends had already gotten upset about it, and I felt even more tension because that was around the time that I had become interested in Allyson. How would you feel if everything you did with a person you were flirting with was put on a website?

I decided to simplify my life where I could. That meant shutting down the distractions caused by the update page.

Well, I kind of figured that when things had settled down a bit that I'd resume publication of the update page. I started archiving the old updates so that they would be easier to read, and I was even planning on a total redesign of the update page when I re-launched it. Somewhere along the way I realized that a return of the update page really wouldn't be the best thing.

Does this have anything to do with those R.U.S.T.Y. people who were stalking you?

Nope. Nothing to do with them at all...but I do cherish them with a very special part of my ass.
