The Mystery of the Talking Pumpkin
by Kim van der Weijde
One spooky full moon night, Sophia was doing her homework when she heard an extremely cold and nasty voice murmur, "I am here to scare, not to laugh. Now it is time to do no right." When Sophia heard that she went strait to the bathroom, filled the sink with water, and dunked her head in.
When she took her head out she calmed herself down by saying, "It's all right, you just imagined it."
Right then she heard it again. "Come and look. You know you want to."
"I am definitely dreaming," she said when the pumpkin was done talking.
The next day , same time, she saw a freaky pumpkin head sticking up from the top of her decorated fence. When she saw the pumpkin she also saw a cord sticking from the back of its head. ”That’s a clue,” she whispered to herself.
But then she heard the pumpkin laugh a horrid laugh.
Right then she knew she couldn’t do this on her own. So she decided to call her friend Cindy to help her solve this mystery. Once she told Cindy the story and clues they went to the yard to investigate the pumpkin. Cindy, right when she saw the pumpkin, had an idea.
“Okay, you sneak behind the pumpkin and grab him so he can’t move. I’ll look in his mouth to see if he is fake or not. On the count of three. One, two, three,” she ordered.
She raced around the pumpkin and grabbed it. She looked in its mouth.
”What do you see,” she asked?
“I see a tongue, teeth, and a weird thing hanging from its throat. Oh and I see a light bulb,”she explained.
Then the pumpkin started to move. They both ran and yelled, “Make a run for it”. As they were running they ran into Sophia’s mom.
Her mom started pushing them in front of her when they noticed a remote sticking from her blouse. They stopped, took it out, and stopped the robot pumpkin. Then they stared at eachother like they were crazy for thinking the pumpkin was alive. At once they started blaring out at the same time how mean it was for tricking them and asked for an explanation.
Her mom said she was sorry and then laughed, “Happy Halloween.”
