Writing Extra Credit
- You can earn up to 100 extra credit points
for each piece you do beyond the two required ones each term. NO LIMIT.
- You earn 25 extra credit points each time you
submit a piece you completed in this class for publication outside the
class. NOTE: You can submit a piece (save it to your disk and give me
the disk) for the Authors section of this website. This is especially
relevant the last term because persuasive pieces can be written in the
format of a letter to the editor and sent to the "Gainesville Sun." See
me for more information.
- You earn up to 100 extra credit points for
each piece published outside the class. NOTE: Submitting a piece on
disk for this website also counts. If you write a letter and get a
response, that counts if you show it to me. And also think about the
"Gainesville Sun" for persuasive pieces.
- At least two of the SNTs each term are for
extra credit.
- If your SNT is chosen as the best in your
group, you earn an extra 10 points.
- There are two bonus questions, each worth a
point, on each spelling test.
- You can "buy" 25 extra credit points with 100
stamps.
- Students can earn extra credit by attending a
presentation by an author. Book signings and such are described in the
Daybreak section of the Sunday newspaper. If students attend any of
these presentations and write a description of what it was and what was
learned from it, they can earn up to fifty extra credit points for each
presentation attended. Students should write it up and put it in the
extra credit box each time.
- You can earn up to 100 extra credit
points this term by writing a letter (in proper letter format as studied
this year) to next year's sixth graders, telling them everything you
wish someone had told you before coming to middle school. It is due by
the last day of the term and will be used for display, so it will not
be returned. If you turn it in by May 1 (in the EC box) you will get an
extra 50 points if it is done well enough that I can display it for
Tadpole Orientation. If you get started early enough, you could also do
it as a piece as long as you go through the process for pieces. You can
count this on your reading grade, writing grade or half in each.
Remember extra credit can only HELP your grade, so take advantage of
it.
