Soon after tyranny spread across the galaxy, the young Jedi Anakin Skywalker was changed to Darth Vader, the Dark Lord of the Sith, most of the other Jedi’s were destroyed, the Old Republic made place for the greatest military force ever. Members of the old senate who had once tried to oppose him legally turned to rebellion and formed the alliance. A rebellion and the threat it represented gave him a motive to wipe away the last remnant of the Old Republic. Solo received more than enough credits from Princess Leia to pay off Jabba, but he and his longtime partner, Chewbacca the Wookiee, was drawn into the Rebellion, and the debt to Jabba remained unpaid. When Solo finally decided the time was right to return to Tatooine, Jabba had already put a death mark on the Corellian’s head. Bounty hunters from all over the galaxy were looking for Solo, his ship, and his Wookiee companion. One notorious hunter, Boba Fett, tracked Solo to Bespin and led the Empire right to him. After encasing Solo in carbonite, Darth Vader turned his frozen form over to Boba Fett for delivery to Jabba. Among Jabba’s most prized possessions were the rancor and the sail barge. Every smuggler, bounty hunter, pirate, and thief in the Outer Rim Territories eventually took on a job for Jabba, including Han Solo and his partner Chewbacca. After Solo dumped a shipment of spice to avoid an Imperial blockade, Jabba gave the smuggler a limited time to make good on the shipment’s worth. When Solo failed to return to Tatooine to pay off his debt Jabba put a price on his head. Boba Fett collected the bounty, but Solo’s Rebel companions came to rescue him. Imperial forces under the command of Lord Darth Vader arrived at Cloud City and “persuaded” Calrissian to assist them. The Dark Lord made Lando an offer he could not refuse - a deal to keep the Empire out of Bespin system forever. All Lando had to do was betray his old friend Han Solo. After escaping from Imperial forces in the Hoth system, Han Solo brought his damaged Millennium Falcon to Cloud City for repairs. Lando, who owned the Falcon until he lost it to Solo in a sabacc game, welcomed Solo and his companions to the facility, promising to get his techs right to work on the Falcon’s troublesome hyperdrive. While he played the cordial and dashing host, Lando was setting Solo up for a fall. He went along with Vader because the Dark Lord had claimed to be after someone named Skywalker. Solo, Leia, Chewbacca, and C-3PO were nothing more than bait, the Dark Lord had claimed, explaining that after the trap had been sprung, the four could remain on Bespin. The Empire’s promise to leave Cloud City to its own devices and the large number of heavily armed stormtroopers at Vader’s side had convinced Lando to go along with the deal. When he discovered that Vader was changing the terms to suit his own purposes and that his beloved Cloud City was about to become an armed camp, Lando finally decided to help Han. He ordered the evacuation of Cloud City, but was too late to rescue Han Solo from the bounty hunter Boba Fett. Instead, he helped Leia and Chewbacca escape in the Falcon, and even managed to help save Luke Skywalker from the very bottom of the floating city. Later, Lando took part in the mission to rescue Han Solo from the clutches of Jabba the Hutt. He disguised himself as one of Jabba’s guards and worked his way into Jabba’s court so that he could watch, listen, and wait for an opportunity to make a move. After saving Solo and helping to destroy Jabba the Hutt, Lando decided to take a commission in the Rebel Alliance. Lando was given the rank of general. She was raised as befits a princess, learning the principles of justice and honor along with her other studies. As she grew older, she became a political leader on Alderaan, eventually winning a seat on the Imperial Senate at a young age. But while she fought for reforms on the Senate floor, she also went to work for the Alliance to Restore the Republic. It was while on a two-fold mission for the Alliance and her foster father that she became involved in the events that would lead her into the company of Luke Skywalker and Han Solo. At Bail Organa’s insistence, Leia was heading for Tatooine to find General Obi-Wan Kenobi and recruit him for the Rebellion. On the way, she received plans for the Death Star battle station. Before she could reach Obi-Wan, her consular ship Tantive IV was intercepted by an Imperial Star Destroyer under the command of Lord Darth Vader. She hide the plans in the memory banks of R2- D2 and order it to find Obi-Wan Kenobi before she was captured. As a prisoner of Vader, Leia underwent terrible interrogation sessions as the Imperials sought to discover the location of the main Rebel base and the whereabouts of the stolen technical plans. She withstood everything , giving them only the name of an abandoned base. Worse, though, she was forced to watch how her beloved adopted homeworld Alderaan was destroyed by the Death Star. Shortly thereafter, Luke Skywalker and Han Solo rescued her from the battle station and ferried her and the technical plans to the real Rebel base on Yavin 4. Due to Leia’s efforts and the help of her new companions, the first Death Star was destroyed. When Han Solo was captured, Leia was among the small team that went to bring him back. She pretended to be the Ubese bounty hunter Boushh in order to get into Jabba the Hutt’s stronghold. Her identity was discovered, and Leia had to be Jabba’s slave for a time. That message propelled Luke Skywalker on a journey to rescue Princess Leia and learn the skills of the Jedi Knights. Obi-Wan explained that Luke’s father had been a Jedi Knight who had been betrayed and murdered by Kenobi’s student, Darth Vader. He gave Luke his father’s lightsaber, promising to teach the young man the ways of the Force. With the help of Han Solo and Chewbacca the Wookiee, Luke, Obi-Wan, and the droids escaped from Tatooine and rescued Princess Leia from the Death Star, although Obi-Wan was killed by Darth Vader during the campaign. But the Force was strong in Luke Skywalker, and he fired the shot that destroyed the Death Star to end the Battle of Yavin. Over the next three years, Luke became a prominent member of the Rebel Alliance. He achieved the rank of commander and took charge of the X-wing squadron known as Rogue Squadron. While on Hoth, Luke was led by a vision of Obi-Wan Kenobi to the swamp planet Dagobah, where he was to find a Jedi Master named Yoda to complete his training. Luke learned much from the wizened old Yoda, but he cut his training short to help his friends at Cloud City, the site of his first confrontation with Darth Vader. Vader sliced off Luke’s right hand. Vader told him that Kenobi had lied: Vader had not killed Luke’s father. He was Luke’s father. With the help of Princess Leia and Lando Calrissian, Luke barely escaped with his life. After being fitted for a prosthetic hand, Luke traveled to Tatooine to rescue Han Solo from Jabba the Hutt. Luke destroyed the crime lord and his entire operation. He then returned to Dagobah to finish his training and discover the truth of Vader’s words. But he found a dying Yoda, who confirmed his worst fears and explained that his training was complete. All he had to do to become a full Jedi was to confront Vader a second time. He also learned, from Ben Kenobi’s spirit form, that Leia was his sister . At Endor, Luke decided to meet Vader, not in battle, but to free the good in him and return his father Anakin from the Dark Side. Even as the Emperor worked to corrupt Luke, Luke managed to reach the small spark of good buried deep within the darkness and armor of Vader, and Anakin Skywalker re-emerged. Anakin then killed the Emperor and sacrificed his own life to save his son.
