Gene Colan
When I think of Marvel Comics in the 60's there are a number of excellent
artists who come to mind. Jack Kirby, Johnny Romita, John Buscema, Steve
Ditko, and Jim Steranko are all luminaries who workd on Marvel's 60's comics,
and Gene Colan deserves to stand among this select group of artists. Gene
illustrated numerous books including Iron Man, Daredevil, Submariner,
and Captain America. My personal favorites of the bunch are Gene's DD and
Iron Man. But no matter what he illustrated, Gene brought a cinematic
approach to his camera angles and developed his very own recognizable style
of dynamic action.
- Daredevil #25 p.18: Daredevil
springs into action against his foe, Leapfrog, in every panel. The
dialogue is classic 60's fare. I have a great nostalgia for this page
as it's from the first comic book my grandfather bought for me when I was
a child. In a weak moment I sold the page to another collector whose
name and address I no longer have. If you are in possession of this
page, please let me know what I can do to return it to my collection!
