A tough and sometimes undervalued practice
Stone walls are built along the contour from stones removed from the field
during land preparation.
In a more intensive fashion, stone walls are incorporated into level bench
terraces, and in other cases retain eroded soil and form a terrace over
time.
The base of the wall in anchored into an excavated key, and the wall
should be protected by vegetation. This may be fruit or multipupose trees
and other plants.
