About the Pub

A Gainesville Tradition

During its early years, and well into this century, Gainesville's center of activity was located in and around the Courthouse Square. The Square was bordered and defined by Market Street, Hay Street, Broadway, and Pearl Street.

This was Gainesville's marketplace. It was not just a place to shop for groceries, household items and farm equipment, it was a neighborly place to chat and gather for festivities.

Downtown Gainesville

where we are

Built in 1898 on the corner of Hay Street and Pleasant Street, only a few short blocks from The Square stand the building that now houses The Market Street Pub

Although the University of Florida, since it was founded in 1906, has brought growth and a wealth of cultural diversity to the North Florida community, Gainesville retains the close knit character that was present in those early days. It is this romantic spirit for which The Market Street Pub was named.
