George's New Sight

When George came to live with us, we knew he was blind in one eye and had limited vision in the other.  He never walked into furniture, so we didn't realize how limited his vision was.  When we took him outside, he "lost" us and panicked when he was little more than ten feet away.

George had his cataract surgery thanks to the kind donations from Alachua County Humane Society members and the Gainesville community at large.  He came home with an Elizabethan collar.  Immediately the change was apparent.  He no longer panicked when he was in the backyard.  Instead he would notice squirrels, blowing leaves, Timmy (our pet rat) -- from across the yard!  At the park he felt confident enough to leave our sides to explore.  It was a very moving experience to watch him.
