Folio320Nomads appear in north;
Mixed Oerid-Baklunish nomad bands had gradually moved into and laid claim to the steppe lands beyond the Yatil range, pushing eastwards as far as the Griff Mountains. Border skirmishing with the southern nations went on as these wild horsemen pushed into the Flanaess. Perhaps the civilized states could have stopped their eastward progress had they not been busy fighting with the Aerdi for their independence. [pg. 5; pg. 6]
Outer dependencies of Aerdy gain sovereignty.
Perranders, Velunians, Furyondians and Tenhas achieve success, establishing independent status one after the other in a series of minor but bloody wars. [pg. 5; pg. 6]
Editor's Note: There are several implications raised by connecting the appearance of the nomads to the north and the southern battles for independence, and one internal contradiction. First, Thrommel I was crowned King of Furyondy in 254 CY. If read literally then this act of independence was not fully realized nor recognized by the Great Kingdom until at least 320 CY.
Second, Perrenland did not form its loose confederation until c. 400 CY primarily in response to incursions by Furyondy, Ket and nomads. If 320 CY is when the nomads first appeared in the north then the migration of these nomads may have lasted for at least 80 years and possibly longer.
However, From the Ashes rephrases the event caption to read, "Northern Nomads first reported and documented," implying that the nomads had been migrating prior to 320 CY.
Lastly, the contradiction, several passages throughout the Folio refer to the Great Kingdom's presence either in or past the Duchy of Tenh. However, the entry for the Duchy of Tenh itself relates, "[t]his realm has retained its freedom and independence down to this day."
Folio447Founding of the Iron League;
This alliance joined Onnwal with the Free City of Irongate (which barred the Onnwal peninsula), Idee, Sunndi, and the demi-humans of the Glorioles and the Hestmark Highlands in economic and military alliance. Onnwal and Irongate supplied the sea power, while the other members furnished troops for land actions -- although strong contingents from both of the former places were also sent into battle. [pg. 13]
Editor's Note: It is more likely that at this time the Iron League consisted solely of Onnwal, the Free City of Irongate and Idee. Sunndi did not join the Iron League until 455 CY. Considering the geographical position of the Glorioles and the Hestmark Highlands, it is unlikely that the demi-humans of these regions joined prior to Sunndi.
When the demi-humans of the Glorioles and the Hestmark Highlands joined the Iron League is unknown. The entries within the Folio for both these regions tend towards a much more recent joining then either the 447 CY or 455 CY date, particularly the dwur of the Glorioles.
These dwarves, despite an antipathy for elvenkind, have of late aided in the warfare conducted by the Iron league against the invading forces of the Great Kingdom. [pg. 13; 24]
Wars505Iuz imprisoned beneath Castle Greyhawk.
FolioIuz had been trapped by the mirthful and mad Zagig, locked away in a strange chamber deep below the ruins of Greyhawk Castle, one of nine powerful demi-gods so confined. [--; pg. 12]
Editor's Note: The nine gods were, as provided by R J Kuntz: Celestian the Far Wanderer, Erythnul the Many, Heironious the Invincible, Hextor, Iuz the Old, Obad-Hai the Shalm, Olidammara the Laughing Rogue, Ralishaz the Unlooked-For and Trithereon the Summoner.
WG8576Plague abroad in Rookroost.
Editor's Note:The date for the Fate of Istus module was determined from the following passage:
Millennialists know that this is The Year (6091 S.D., or 576 CY, exactly 1,000 years since the Scarlet Brotherhood was formed). [WG8 Fate of Istus; pg. 6; pg. 110]
However, there are some internal inconsistencies concerning this date. The first appears in the Rauxes entry.
Ivid has become more obsessed with extending his lands in order to form the "Greater Aerdi Empire" ever since his declaration of war against Almor and Nyrond. [pg. 6; pg. 69]
This declaration of war could be in reference to an article contained within Dragon #65. In that article though it was Nyrond and Almor who declared war upon the Great Kingdom in 578 CY. It's likely the Great Kingdom would retaliate in kind. The text in WG8 then goes on to state.
The Herzog's subsequent blunting of the armies of the Golden League (Nyrond, Almor and those countries comprising the Iron League has only added fresh fuel to his monomania. The aforementioned battle(s) transpired after the events detailed in T1-4 (The Temple of Elemental Evil) and spanned two years. [pg. 6; pg. 69]
T1-4 should take place in 579 CY. By adding the two years which this war spanned to the date when T1-4 takes place would imply that WG8 should take place in 581 CY or later.
The second appears in the Verbobonc entry.
[Wilfrick] has cooperated with the Archcleric of Veluna in building a castle to defend the small village of Hommlet . . . . Recently, that project saw fruition, and only garrisioning the place remains to complete the handiwork started years ago.
DM Note: The completion of the aforementioned castle transpired a couple of years after the events in the initial version of T1 (The Village of Hommlet
[pg. 6; pg. 93]
T1's timeline is similar to T1-4, taking place in 579 CY. Interpreting 'a couple of years' to the shortest time possible, 2 years, would coincide with the Rauxes entry. It is suggested that the dates in the chronology be used as written. However, the WG8 module seems to fit best within the context of all related sources if placed in 581 CY.
