	Brandobaris;  Stealth, Thievery, Adventuring;  N

	Brandobaris is the master of adventure and misadventure.  The moral
	lesson of many of his journeys and scrapes it that it's better not to
	dash off unprepared into danger; but Brandobaris is an agreeable,
	friendly rascal.  In myth, he always manages to escape from the awful
	situations he finds himself in.  This is typical of the halfling gods,
	demigods and heroes of the trickster variety, who are numerous in local
	halfling pantheons.

	Brandobaris concerns himself with the affairs of halfling adventurers,
	who he sees almost as proxy versions of himself.  He is ever
	mischievious, and concerns himself with the behavior of halflings rather
	than their formal alignments.

Description:
------------
        Jayar stands 4'9" and has blond hair and blue eyes.  Jayar's greatest
asset is his disarming boyish smile.  Jayar can easly pass as a boy of 12-15
years old. The large scar on his left arm tells that he is not a boy but a
seasoned adventurer. Jayar loves a good story and is always ready to listen to
news of the world.

Background:
-----------
	The Vesve Forest is currently under attack by many large bands of euroz
and other humanoids from Iuz.  These monsters, and their evil human allies, make
the place a continual battlefield of good vs. evil, and the position of Marshal
is most important to continuing successful actions against the invasion.
Thousands of demihumans and humans depend on this, and your troops number
thousands, although they are split into many small companies.  However, the
Circle of Eight is an ally of this joint human-olven effort, and when one of
their nobles requests the Lady Marshall's presence in Magepoint, she could not
demure, despite the importance of her current charge.

[setting: Vesve Forest, in Rowena's chambers. Rowena and two friends are
conversing about happenings along the borders. A look of sadness is on Rowena's
face.]

	"Lady Marshal, if I may. Within the last three days there have been
numerous attacks on the borders. Usually we wouldn't be too worried about small
attacks such as these are, but there has been a difference in the way these
bands have fought."

	The Lady Marshal sits a little further forward, "How so Jayar?" Jayar,
Rowena's henchman for many years. Also her most loyal friend. 

	"If we may look at this map." Jayar motions towards the crude map of the
Vesve Forest. "As we can see here, the attacks have been coming in from all
angles, hitting us where we are the least manned."

	"What makes these attacks any different from the others?"

	"Well...from what has been happening are planned attacks, at crucial
points. These bands of euroz have attacked these points at the same time, making
it difficult to send troops to one area without worrying about the others losing
the battle. Even though we have enough manpower to guard against such attacks,
the way in which these attacks were executed has made me start to believe that
the euroz have finally started to learn, to find ways to weaken us. These
attacks were of a small scale, leaving us able to handle them without much
worry, but if they were to amass great armies...I am not sure what the end
result would be."

	Taking all of this in Rowena sits back and tries to think of all that is
happening. Suddenly one of the others stands up, not willing to wait any longer. 

	"Lady Marshal, I am sorry to sound hasty but these matters are no longer
the little squirmishes that were first started. We are now facing larger and
larger groups of enemies, bent on destroying everything in their wake. Things
must be done, and they must be done quickly or else..."

	"Or else what Tharundar Olehm.? We might have to face massive armies of
euroz? Do you think I do not know the dangers that we are facing? I can assure
you that I fully understand what is happening, but I cannot tell you why. The
only thing I can tell you is that I will  do everything in my power to stop
these attacks, but I will not endanger the lands or the inhabitants, be they
humanoid or animal, I will not endanger them. But these matters are causing me
to makes decisions that could bring even greater danger to the lives of many. Do
not worry Tharundar, I am doing everything I can."

	"Well maybe that is not enough." Not yet realizing that he was not
truely getting on rowena's good side, Tharundar continued. "Maybe you aren't
doing enough to ensure the safety of everyone here. Maybe it is time to appoint
a new Marshal." 

	"That is enough Tharundar!" Jayar quickly stands and moves towards
Tharundar. "You know, as well as I, that Lady Marshal is doing everything that
she can, which is more than I can say for you, you..."

	"Silence." The voice does not shout out in anger, but rather is spoken
softly, yet this voice causes both men to stop and look towards Rowena. "This is
not the time for there to be bickering between you two. There has been a lot of
tension flying through the air these past few weeks...and I believe that
everyone here is feeling them just as well. Jayar, Tharundar, please sit. I can
see reasons for swiftness in trying to stop these attacks, but there is no need
for making drastic decisions, for it will be these decisions that will be the
end of us. Now if we want to try and..."

	"Madam. There is someone who says he need to see you. They say they have
something that they can only deliver to you."

	Looking towards Tharundar and Jayar. "Let them in." The door opens and
in flies a falcon carrying a scroll in his talons. Landing on the armrest of
Rowena's chair, the falcon bows his beak to the Lady Marshal.  Rowena reaches
down and takes the scroll from the talon's and looks at the seal. "Thank you."
Breaking the wax seal, Rowena unrolls the scroll and proceeds to read the
message.

	Jayar slowly raises from his seat. "Perhaps we should leave. Tharundar?"

	"No. Please stay." Putting the scroll down, Rowena looks out into the
forest. "I may need you both." Holding the scroll out to Jayar, he comes and
reads the scroll aloud.

"Lady Marshal Rowena of Silverbrow,
	Your presence is requested on the first day of Readying in five hundred
and eighty-five, C.D. IV, at the Mist Dragon Inn, the Village of Magepoint on
the southern shores of the Nyr Dyv. Accommodations have been arranged in advance
to include accompaniment by one manservant.  Your stay will be brief."

	"They cannot possibly think that you could leave your position here Lady
Marshal. That would leave us without a leader against the forces of evil. There
must be someone else who could go in your stead," states Tharundar.

	"No. I must go. There can be no other to take my place at this meeting.
But that does pose us with a problem. While I am gone, there must be someone to
take command of these situations. Jayar, I would  like it if you accompanied me.
I would accept no other."

	"I would be pleased to go with you Lady Marshal."

	"Tharundar...you have much knowledge of what happens and what is
happening within these woods. You are skilled at the art of fighting and
commanding. I am sure you will be able to take command while I am gone."

	"But Lady Marshal, I could never do what you do. I wouldn't know where
to start."

	"Oh, you will. But if you don't think you can do the job, I'm sure I
could find someone else to do th..."

	"No Lady Marshal, I can do it. It would be an honor. I won't let you
down."

	"I know you wont." Walking towards the door. "Jayar, I wish to leave
within two hours. I trust you can be ready in that time."

	"I will..." 

	"Tharundar, you are in charge now until I return."

	With that, Rowena leaves to get ready. 

[two hours later. Rowena and Jayar are on their way towards the Village of
Magepoint]

	"How long do you think this journey will take, My Lady?"

	"A week or so, if we do not run into trouble. That will give us enough
time to get to Magepoint. Any interruptions would move us behind schedule. Let
us move faster for the time being, the more land we cover today could give us
that little needed time."

	Rowena and Jayar speed up their hiking through the Forest. Riding
horseback would have been faster, but the way they are traveling would have been
impossible for a horse to travel.

[Three days pass. The going is tough, but Rowena and Jayar continue on their
journey, until Rowena stops dead in her tracks.]

	*sniff* *sniff* "Do you smell that Jayar?"

	Jayar heightens his senses and smells what Rowena is sensing. "A fire.
Coming from the North. What do you suggest we do?"

	"The only thing we can. Even though I left Tharundar in charge, doesn't
mean I can give up my duties as Marshal. I must look out for the Forest.  And if
it means changing course, then so be it. But I sense we will need more help."
Looking into the woods, Rowena starts North. After running for what seems like
hours, Rowena and Jayar come cloes enough to be able to see the fire. It is a
small forest fire, but there is no rivers or bodies of water nearby to be of any
help. 

	"This is not a normal fire set off by nature. It is man made, or at
least humanoid made. But I do not believe that nature will let this fire go on
much longer. For as you can see Jayar, the air is becoming humid.  Expect to see
some rain soon. I believe we do not have to worry about this problem. But we
must take care of another." Looking into the woods, Rowena's eyes catch that of
a wolf. 

	The wolf emerges from the brush. It grey fur shining in the firelight.
Reaching towards her breast, Rowena's fingers fall upon the holy symbol hanging
from her neck. Praying, Rowena goes through the movements. Opening her eyes, a
strange glow surrounds her. "So we meet again old friend." The wolf comes closer
and sits in front of Rowena.

	"It has been many years," states the wolf, "What has brought you this
far from home? It couldn't have been this fire, for we have already taken care
of those who have taken it upon themselves to start this fire. Something else
must be pressing you. What is it?"

	"Can't a girl walk through the forest without having business on her
mind."

	The wolf gives her a little look, that Jayar can only see as a raising
of the brow.

	"Alright. I could never get anything past you, you old coot. Something
urgent has come up. I do not know the magnitude of this urgency, but I do know
that I must be moving quickly. This trek north to see to the fire has already
added a few hours onto our travel time. We must be moving along. It was good
seeing you again. As soon as I get back we can get together. And seeing as you
have the situation under control I will leave you to your business. Jayar you
ready to continue?"

	"Not so fast. You might be the Lady Marshal to everyone else, but you
will still be that young, naive girl I rescued years ago. No, I will accompany
you. You never know when I will have to save you again."
	
	"So be it. But let me warn you that I never made you tag along."

	"It is noted. Now let us go."

	"Yes Old one." a little smile appears onto Rowena's face. Let us hurry,
it is still a few hours until night time, and I would like to find shelter
before the rains come.

[Rowena, Jayar, and the wolf continue on their journey towards Magepoint. the
rains go on for days, keeping the three in the cave, longer than they expected.] 

	"Now when speed is needed does nature keep me inside." Looking out of
the mouth of the cave. "I can not stay here any longer. To miss the meeting
could be disastrous. But we are already many days behind. It would take more
than just walking fast to get us to Magepoint on time. There is only one person
I can turn to for help right now. I just hope she can hear me." Sitting down on
the cave floor, Rowena goes into a meditative trance. 

	"My friend, wherever you may be, I am need of your assistance. I am in
need of a fast steed to get to Magepoint. You are the only person who can help
me at this point. Please, if you can sense this, please come. I await thee."

	Opening her eyes, Rowena sees that the rain has stopped and the sun is
shining brightly. 

	"Lady Marshal, we were wondering when you were going to wake. You have
been sleeping for hours." Jayar helps Rowena to stand.

	"Hours? Why didn't you wake me?"

	"We tried everything we could, but you would not waken. You started
speaking in a language unknown to any of us. When you were done, the rain
stopped. you have been asleep every since. Come, let us go outside. I think you
could use some fresh air before we start for Magepoint."

	Walking out Rowena looks out across the earth. The sun had indeed come
out, and all traces of rain had evaporated. Looking towards the horizon, Rowena
all of a sudden loses her footing, but is caught by Jayar. "My Lady, what is
wrong?"

	"Nothing Jayar. It's just that I can now see that my call for help has
been answered. Look." Pointing towards the horizon, Jayar sees what Rowena
speaks of. Flying towards them with great speed is a white steed with vibrant
wings. Within minutes the pegasus is standing in front of Rowena. 

	"You heard me dear friend. As you know, we are in need of speed. You
wouldn;t have come if you could not help us. Are you willing to carry us to
Magepoint?"

	The Pegasus shakes her head a neighs. "I take that as a yes. Jayar get
the things ready, we are bound for Magepoint. I can only hope we make it on
time." Getting onto Pegasus, Rowena looks down towards he wolf. "Revered
one...we cannot take you with us on this steed, but I sense that you do not wish
to leave me, but to follow along.  Even though you cannot accompany us this way,
you can still travel faster than Jayar and myself on foot. You know the way to
Magepoint. I am sure I will see you there." With a look of assurance, the wolf
bounds off towards Magepoint. 

	"If we are ready, let us be off."

[With that said, Pegasus takes to the skies and heads towards Magepoint, with
Jayar and the Lady Marshal on her back.]

Roleplay:

	Jayar will be the nicest character you ever saw.  He will play the
little faithful servant. He will act in awe of the archmages and the other high
level characters.  He is very used to waiting and watching.  His eyes take in all around him.

	Jayar fights with his sling and throwing daggers from afar but he is not
afraid to wade into the fray where he will fight short sword in one hand and
