His feet are restless ever to wander the many worlds of the PMP, his eyes ever on the horizon. Fharlanghn is portrayed as a middle-aged man with weathered and wrinkled brown skin and bright green eyes. He is plain-clothed and unencumbered, carrying only an iron-shod staff and a disc with a curved surface representing the horizon. The disc is made of many woods and is inlaid with jade and turquoise. A bright golden sun-disc is set into the object. Fharlanghn is known to use the disc for divinations. Since travel is perilous in much of the Flanaess, more folk now turn to Fharlanghm with offerings, if not actual worship. His priesthood is small, a wandering fellowship. Services are always outdoors, preferably under a sunny sky, and involve telling of traveler's tales, sharing stories of good people, and bestowing blessings on the worshipers while drinking ale and sharing simple food. Priesthood: ----------- This is a small, wandering priesthood, ever eager to set foot on the road. The priests are practical folk, yet trusting and almost naive in their faith. Collecting tales of the road, recording them, or drawing scenes from far lands are the delight of these priests. They are kindly people who always offer generosity to other travelers. The priesthood does include some urban members, but these are often elderly priests whose traveling days are done. Raiments -- brown or green robes, very plain and ordinary Fharlanghn's priesthood has two prinicpal divisions; the brown robed urban sect, and the green robed travelling ministers who roam the roads. Both believe in the fellowship of travellers, and seek to bring aid to travellers in need. Most roadside inns boast shrines to Fharlanghn, in fact, many are owned by priests and double as wayfaring temples! Description: ------------ Gerric is a man of small, stout stature, whose travel-worn countenance makes him look older than his 25 years. His skin is sun-darkened and ruddy. Deep lines surround his steel grey eyes that stare into and through your soul to give the feeling that he's observing your entire landscape, clear to your horizon. His hair reddish-brown and is cropped one short length and tied back into a small knot of a tail with a simple leather thong. He has a strong acquiline nose and a sturdy chin. The corners of his mouth are slightly upturned, accenting his gentle ever-present smile. His dark eyebrows hint at what little emotion he allows strangers to see. He wears a road-worn green cloak, simple leather armor, brown trousers and soft leather boots his only ornamentation the Holy Symbol of Fharlanghn and his steelshod quarterstaff. Background: ----------- Gerric travels with Agath, the head of the Heavens of Celestian, a temple which was located near the village of Thrutch. This village was in the foothills of the Lortmil Mountains in the Principality of Ulek. Alas, all is lost. With the rise of the Despot Turrush Mak and the invasion of the Principality, Gerric, Agath, their followers and flock were routed from their temple into the very Lortmils themselves. Arduous weeks of fighting a retreating action against the euroz and other humanoid tribes have left their forces decimating. Where once there was almost 100 followers, all that remain are 6. After crossing the Lortmils, the group found themselves in one of the border towns of Celene. The Olven Court has not responded to Agath's requests for passage through their lands, you sit idlely in the town. Now, this summons! How are they to get to Magepoint? And what of those who rely upon them? Weary, hungry and homeless, they look to the two priests for succor. Little remains of the wealth that once your temple housed and that which you were able to save was mostly used during your retreat across the Lortmils. ----- "Agath," the priest of Fharlanghn came to him, "this messenger from the capital itself has just arrived with a message for you. He wants you, you alone, to accompany him back to Celene." "Good day Agath of Thrutch, High Priest of Celestian," the elf bowed, "I am Eldain of Celene. I am told by my superiors that you have a journey to undertake and my instructions are to escort you through Celene. My superiors are anxious to see you on your way as conveniently as possible." Agath gave a snort of derision but kept his tongue in check. For weeks he had requested for safe passage through Celenese lands, and for weeks he had been ignored, only to have this lackey turn up and offer him the same. He opened the letter, scanned its contents, and looked up. "Eldain, I shall be a moment." Agath whirled around back into his room to the astonishment of Gerric and the elf. The Circle of Eight? The seal of Rao? What can this portend? What would they want with him? How had they known where to find him, seeing that the Principality is in a state of ruin? What is to be done here in Ulek? Can he continue the war without resources? "Gerric, organize our men. We leave with Eldain within the hour. I'll explain as we go." There was hardly anything to pack, Agath and his men arrived with the barest minimum of resources and equipment. Six of them left, seven, including Gerric. We shall have to stop at Greyhawk before proceeding, Agath thought. Sage Kestris could do with 6 able-bodied men to help him out, not that the work of Celestian was particularly physical in nature. Better that than to leave the men here. I'll offer them the option whether or not to follow me all the way to Magepoint. I could charge them with the task of rebuilding the church effort in my absence, and come back for them after the appointment. Gerric, on the other hand, will come with me. Agath smiled to himself at the thought of the man's devotion and loyalty. As they travelled further and further across Celene, and away from Ulek, Agath tried harder and harder to put aside thoughts of regret and sadness. He had spent the last 12 years, no, more than that, in the various states of Ulek, doing his priestly work. he was particularly proud of the Heavens of Celestian, and was content to have spent the last few years pottering about in researching other planes and dimensions. Perhaps this summons would be an opportunity to regain some resources or favors to rebuild the temple, recruit followers. Maybe the Circle of Eight was concerned with the war with the Pomarj. Agath noticed that Eldain's route avoided important elven cities, merely skirting the borders and outlying towns. The usual paranoia and insularism of Celene. Agath remained civil towards the elf and his squad despite the lack of assistance from Celene for Ulek. The elf was after all, granting him passage. Eldain left them near a woodsmen town in the Gnarley, and Agath and his men made their way finally to Greyhawk. There he visited Kestris, but gave himself the luxury of a day's rest before proceeding once again to Magepoint, this time on horseback. Roleplay: --------- I am Gerric and those who know me call me "The Voyager." I suppose it is true, for I am rarely still. My cloak is my shelter and my God Fharlanghn my only constant companion. My grey eyes look constantly ahead, and even when I sleep I dream of walking, walking on endless roads. My skin is ruddy and browned by the sun (true, there is probably some Flan blood from my mother's side too, but no one will admit that. My father was proud of his pure Oerdian blood and though he tried to hide it, my complexion bothered him.) I stay within the hood of my cloak, for as the eyes are the windows of the soul, so the face is the window of the mind. I would only let those I trust look too closely through those windows. I tend to be a quiet one, and I believe in speaking the fewest words possible to meet the greatest need. I involve myself in every conversation fully, listening for as long as you or any other will speak, then waiting for a moment to be sure you are done. Then, and only then, might I speak. That is, if I truly have something important to say, something that will make a difference. I have found that if I keep moving, traveling new roads to new places, that people will ask me less and tell me more. They will often be afraid to offend me, especially since my help comes at as low a price as I can afford, (often to the chagrin of any traveling companions with whom I share my path.) They fill the space with stories of their own, and I can see into their souls and encourage them on their path to Balance, whether their travels lead them across the road or across the Flanaess. I am at home on the open roads and on paths yet untrod. Perhaps even to a fault, for I sometimes find decisions hard to make. Often I will allow that to be my decision, for I keep moving until my path becomes my destination and therein will lie my decision. Perhaps this is why I find fulfillment in joining a group of adventurers on their path to glory, riches, or what else they may seek. Then I see the Oerth and more every day. I can take it in and find myself without too much worry as to where I go and when I will arrive. As of late I have traveled and served with Agath of Thrutch, His Holy Eminence and Damon of Celestian. He runs the church in Ulek and has the deep passion and far reaching vision of his patron. I have come to deeply appreciate his friendship, and strive to return his loyalty to me in kind. Following his stars my feet tread that much firmer ground as Fharlanghn (I make the sign of Balance) guides my every step. I am not jealous for his attention, for I recognize the breadth of his responsibility, but I would take a fell shot meant for him and will guard and protect him as far as my power will reach, whether by the blessings of my god or by the steel shoe of my staff. I do not know how long our paths will adjoin, but I am pleased they do so now. --- Miscellaneous: -------------- Fighting Style: Gerric looks for any sign of specific threats that he can protect his comrades and himself with spells. If in close quarters, he will ready his Quarterstaff, if there is some distance he will nock an arrow and try to fell some enemies or at least slow them down. Any offensive spells appropriate would come into play. Then on to melee. My goals are to make Gerric very real to all the players and to you. I hope, in light of the PO rules usage to familiarize myself with them better. I really just want to have fun creating a persona that lives without having to give up a big 4 or 5 hour block every time. I've been DMing off & on for years w/o playing. Now I get to play. Access: ------- We have AT&T Worldnet at home, plus I have T1 access at work that I'm allowed to use on breaks, etc. All posts should be sent to BOTH addresses: atoohey@acs.com and yehoota@worldnet.att.net Both can receive attachments, but PLEASE, indicate the type of file (i.e.: file extension) because the filename doesn't always survive. I have a steady schedule year round. I will have difficulty posting the from 9-16 through 9-22 as I will be in NY for my brother's wedding and don't know if I'll be able to access the net or not, so we may need to arrange some actions.
