Heironeous; Chivalry, Honor, Justice, Valor, Daring; LG
Heironeous, the Invincible, is the champion of rightful combat and
chivalrous deeds. He is the patron Power of those who fight for honor,
justice, and the fair, good order of things. Clad in chain mail and
hefting a great magical battle axe, Heironeous is portrayed as a
youthful, tall man with coppery skin, auburn hair, and amber eyes, and
is unsurpassingly handsome. He is a 'beloved of the Gods;' his skin is
said to be magically enchanted to break most weapons striking him, and
he has many natural gifts given him by the Powers of lawful good.
Heironeous is typically a Power revered by officers, leaders, and
paladins rather than the common warrior, but this is changing.
Heironeous is strong as a fighter and as a protector, and this duality
attracts many worshipers. He is widely revered throughout the nonevil
lands of the Flanaess.
Services to Heironeous include triumphal singing of battle hymns,
offerings made to a copper statue of the Power, (such statues adorn most
of his finely decorated temples), and sharing of strengthening foods --
meat, full-bodied red wine (in moderation) and spiced, stewed
kara-fruit.

Knows Rowena as "desirable but out of place."
Description:
------------
Franz stands 6 feet tall, well built and muscular. Waves of light brown
hair hang to his shoulders, framing a handsome face, deeply tanned. Startling
grey eyes peer out from beneath dark brown eyebrows. A small, well tailored
mustache graces his upper lip. Used to command, he walks with an air of
confidence that he cannot conceal, it has become second nature. Franz feels
most comfortable in his armour, which he has worn like a second skin for more
years then he can remember. Franz tends to be straight forward, honest to a
fault . . . battle and command are his strong points, and he is far from being
Politic. Nevertheless, he is still quite intelligent, skilled in tactics and
able to weigh necessity and Duty, to come up with the correct balance. Though
he stands tall and proud, his face betrays a certain weariness, bearing the
weight of sublime Duty has taken its toll.
Background:
-----------
Torkeep lies north of the city of Critwall in the northeastern marches
of the Shield Lands. Your stronghold, Torkeep, is on the bluffs which overlook
the Ritensa River near the only ford within many leagues. It was a very active
place, with raids and skirmishes going on continually. Alas, the wars changed
all this. The advance of Iuz from the east in Flocktime 583 C.D. IV surprised
everyone in the Shield Lands and Torkeep took the brunt of one assault. Where
other lords fought a retreating action to Admundfort, you and your men fought
south to Critwall and then crossed the Veng River. Though you've been on the
frontlines of defense for over a year, your casualties have been light compared
to others in the same situation. Although the morale of your command is high,
you fear leaving it for any reason, but a summons from the Circle of Eight is
not to be taken lightly. Reluctantly, you make preparations to leave, not the
least of which is who should command in your stead.
-----
Franz, by the Divine Will of Heironious, Lord of Torkeep and Defender of
the Shield Lands was in a furtive mood. He sat in his command tent brooding
silently over the contents of a letter. Earlier that evening, just after
Sunset, a speckled Pigeon had flown into his tent, strait between the heavy
canvas flaps. Franz's Squire, Mullin, had nearly choked, and had quickly set
after the bird with a broom. Mullin had chased the thing around and around the
spacious tent before noticing that something was attatched to the pigeons leg.
A small letter, a missive from the Council of Eight
After glancing over the contents of the letter, Franz had ordered Mullin
to leave him, and to make sure he was not disturbed. He had walked over to his
small, plain writing desk, lit a candle, poured himself a glass of wine, and sat
and stared at the missive for several hours. The wine sat, untouched, several
hours later when Franz left the tent and ordered a passing Seargent-at-Arms to
fetch Sir Phillip and Mullin.
When they finally arrived, Franz already had his pack laid out, stuffed
with the plainest clothes he could find and his travelling gear. It also
contained some of his special items, a pair of magic rings, a packet of dust
used to reveal hidden opponents, and a potion of Dragon Control, just in case.
He threw in a hefty pouch of gold, for food and transport. He had also laid out
a set of his better clothes, his embroidered cloak, spare helm, and a gilded
broadsword he had never used.
Franz then proceeded to relay the information, overriding all their
disagreements. He had to leave, the Coucil of Eight had summoned him. However,
he could not risk letting the Spies of Iuz and his forces finding out where he
was going or what he was doing. For this reason, Sir Phillip would select a man
he could trust explicitly to ride to Torkeep, dressed in Franz's clothes, spare
armour, and helm, and carrying a broadsword. Mullin would ride with him, to
complete the illusion. The false Lord of Torkeep would ride within the hour,
and he would be seen leaving the camp. Sir Phillip would then tell the men that
Franz had had to rush off on urgent business to Torkeep, and that he would be
back in a few weeks. In the meantime, Sir Phillip would take command of the
Army and maintain their defensive position. Franz would then leave secretly,
disquised as one of the men who brought supplies to the camp. He would then
purchase a horse and ride immediately for Mage Point. He would strive to return
as soon as possible.
It had been clear during the conversation that Franz was relaying
orders, and Sir Phillip and Mullin, though neither were pleased, left to make
preperations immediately. The one concession Franz was forced to make was that
he would not travel alone. One Forngull IceWolf would be going with him.
Forngull was a Frost Barbarian who had been raised a Gladiator and Pit Fighter
in a travelling Exhibition. The man was mighty handy with the Military Fork he
habitually carried, and more importantly was loyal to the point of death to
anyone who paid him. A mercenary with an odd code of honour, he would do what he
was paid or die trying. He was currently serving in the Lord's army, and since
he had been payed through the next year, he would be Franz's to command for a
good time yet. The fact that he had learned to speak half the languages on
Oerth (possibly an exaggeration) in his travelling days was a factor as well.
Three days and nights found Franz and his odd companion well on the way
to MagePoint. Forngull was silent and stonyfaced, riding along on the
newly-purchased horse, ornate Military Fork resting easily on his shoulder. He
had accepted the change of Venue virtually without comment, his life had led him
strange places before, so he wasn't really surprised.
The two travelled on, avoiding towns except to purchase supplies. Franz
face was well known, so he generally kept the cowl of his plain brown travelling
cloak low over his face. He itched to put on the armour he kept hidden in his
saddlebags, to pull his sword from it's hiding place and wear it at his belt.
Only his axe was unhidden, and his shield. He had winced doubly when he had
slapped a coat of dull grey paint over the Crest on his shield, but he guessed
it was necessary. He and Forngull were simply travelling Mercenaries, not
uncommon in this time of troubles.
They travelled consistently, making good time. After many days and
nights of travel, Franz finally Judged them to be only a day, two at most, from
their destination. Magepoint was near, and with luck Franz hoped to be on his
way back to the Front Line in a week.
Roleplay:
---------
Franz plays the part of the typical Warrior Hero, proud, strong and
just. Despite all this he is still human, and has his flaws. He is impatient
to return to the front lines, he feels that he's neglecting his duty. For this
reason he will be terse and occasionally grating in his dealings with others, he
resents the intrusion of the Circle of Eight, and wishes to return home as soon
as possible.
Miscellaneous:
--------------
Franz will generally use Broad Sword and Shield in battle, generally
striking first with his sword, then shield bashing his opponent, which he can do
without losing its defense benefits. His sword is usually set at +2 hit/damage
+2 AC bonus. If he loses his shield or is pressed, he will attack with his
sword in one hand and his axe in the other. Other stuff...hmm, can't think of
anything right now. As for what I want out of the game, all I really want is a
good time, fun, relief from Summer-Vacation-at-Home boredom.
Access:
-------
I have my hotmail account, that does accept attachements, luckily. I'm
currently accessing via a local ISP, though when I return to school (I attend
SFU in Vancouver, Majoring in European History) I'll be accessing via the
University server. I use a slightly glitchy P-100 with Win 95 (also glitchy).
