My grandfather thinks our DISBROWs come from England, somehow make it to MA, then to NY, and finally into NJ. The book, HISTORY AND GENEALOGY OF THE FAMILIES OF OLD FAIRFIELD by Donald L. Jacobus, contains nothing which seems to look promising to me. FAMILIES OF EARLY HARTFORD, CONNECTICUT (by Lucius Barnes Barbour, 1982, Genealogical Publishing Co.) lists the Nicholas Disbrough my grandfather seems to think we connect to on page 219; but I have no idea how he got to such a speculation. He died in 1972, when I was only 9, and not yet interested in such distracting things as `genealogy.' ("...May I have a quarter for the Ferris Wheel, please, Mum?")
There is a man, probably now long since dead, but who may have descendants with the information I need, who was a friend and fellow DISBROW researcher to my grandfather. In fact, he apparently did much more detailed work than my grandfather on our DISBROWs, as I've even seen his name mentioned in an old book in my possesion which lists some of my DISBROWs (THIS OLD MONMOUTH OF OURS, by Wm. S. Horner, 1932, Moreau Brothers Publishers, Freehold, NJ). The man's name is William B. "Billy" Bamford. He apparently lived in Belmar, NJ at the time of printing of the above book. If anyone could direct me to his descendants - who may have the information I need to help solve this mystery - I'll be your `Best Friend for Life.' 8-)
