McLachlan Trial on Hold Until Spring

As anticipated, the civil trial involving Canadian singer Sarah McLachlan is on hold for just over three months as of December 10, according to the Vancouver Province.

The trial, in it's sixth week, adjourned late Thurday afternoon and is not set to reconvene until the spring of 1999, due to prior commitments of the lawyers involved.

The trial centres around a claim by musician Darryl Neudorf that he co-wrote four songs on Sarah McLachlan's 1988 debut album 'Touch' - 'Steaming', 'Vox', 'Sad Clown' and 'Strange World'. Neudorf is suing for co-writing credit and royalties to compensate that credit.

In response, McLachlan has claimed that while Neudorf offered many ideas and suggestions, she declined to use any of them.

When the trial reconvenes, the defence will call their last four witnesses, including Nettwerk Productions Ltd. owners Mark Jowett and Terry McBride. Jowett and McBride are defendants in this civil lawsuit along with McLachlan, Rick Arboit and Nettwerk.

The other two witnesses are Ross Hales and Dave Kershaw, two musicians who played on 'Touch'.
