Ex-fiance: Neudorf Wanted Producer Credit

According to his ex-fiance, Darryl Neudorf should have been credited as producer of Sarah McLachlan's debut album Touch (1988). The subject of song-writing credit, the subject of the six week old Neudorf vs McLachlan trial, was never mentioned.

In a report from the Vancouver Province, Susan Swanson, 32, told the B.C. Supreme Court Monday, "I know he was really upset by the credits on the album. I thought he had produced the album. I know he was quite upset about (the credits)."

On Touch's liner notes, Neudorf was credited with 'pre-production co-ordination and production assistance'. The production credit went to Greg Reely. According to Swanson, "He (Neudorf) thought he would get producer or co-producer credit."

When she was asked whether Neudorf had brought up the subject of song-writing credit for the album, Swanson replied: "I don't remember any discussions that way."

Neudorf, 34, a former drummer with the band 54-40, is suing McLachlan and Vancouver-based Nettwerk Productions for songwriting credit on four songs from Touch -- Steaming, Vox, Sad Clown and Strange World. The former two tracks eventually became successful singles from the album.

Neudorf is also suing for copyright infringement, a share of royalties and a co-production credit on Touch.

The trial is now in its sixth week and is set to adjourn at the end of the week. It likely won't resume until late spring according to defence lawyer Jennifer Conkie. On the subject of the three month break, Conkie stated: "It's hard for all the parties not being able to finish."

This trial has not affected McLachlan's output as she recently released a further single - Angel - from her current Surfacing album. Also, this week sees the release of her first DVD video collection.
