Education in JapanWelcome to my special home page. I had worked as an elementary school in Japan for six years. Of all many experiences, I introduce several anecdotes. Some anecdotes are funny, others are serious.
First grade children
Before Christmas, we are talking about Santa Claus. One girl came to me and said ,"I am worried about something, Can I ask?". She said," I moved here just few weeks ago. I think Santa Clause send my present to the last adress. What should I do?" Don't you think it is so cute? I answered," He is a genius, no problem." It is so sweet, isn't it?
Second grade children
They begin to understand what school is. However, they are very afraid of going somewere by theirselves. "It is true? There are many monster and ghost in science room?" They really belive that and afraid.It is so pure.
Third grade children
In educational psychology, they are called "gang age". They are always fighting with friends. "Teacher, Gift hits me." "No, Mariko hits me first.",something like that. Nevertheless, they keep good relationships.
Fourth grade children
They can work with their friends. They find out imprtance of friends. Especially girls like to write letters. They write for example," I like Gift." " I like Mariko",something like that.
Fifth grade children
They find out thieselves. They think about what is myself? They can express kindness. When I was a teacher, they hold birthday party for me. " We have something suprising for you. You will be glad."
Sixth grade children
They begin to have responsibility. They take care of friends and teacher and parents and so on. Because they begin to have feeling of adults, they pretend to be adult. " I know everyrhing." However, they need a lot of love from people.

I am also interested in not only current educational problems but also enviromental problems. Here is my persuasion paper.
Current life is full of convenient materials. We have benefited from civilzation. On the contrary, we tend to forget the fact annoying enviromental problems threaten us. We rely on industry too much. Actually, there are innumerable enviromental problems on our planet. However, how many people think about them seriously?
Today, in parts of Europe and North America rainwater is sometimes more acidic than lemon juce. Maybe you may have heard that the Mayan temples are being threatened by the effects of acid rain. Oil-field smokestacks and uncapped oil wells along the Gulf of Mexico relates nitrogen and sulfur into the air, which later falls to Earth as acid rain. The acid rain eats into the building walls. To make things worse, cracks caused by acid weathering are home to microorganisms that excrete corrosive wastes, accelating erosion. The most important cause of the excessive acidity of rainwater has been the burning of fossil fuels which produces not only carbon dioxide, but also gases such as nitroden dioxide and sulfur dioxide, which go high into the atmosphere. These gases combine with water molesculus and form acid.
We have another serious problem caused by burning fossil fuels. It is called the green house effect. When sunlight comes through the glass roof of a greenhouse, it heats the inside. The heat is trapped inside and the temperature rises. The greenhouse effect will cause cause starvation due to agricultural problems and the sea level will rise due to ice melting. We should cut back on our consumption of fossil fuels,or think about creating new fuels. If we don't, Earth will be ruined by many enviromental problems.
Moreover, another incredible phenomenon could occur. According to a recent survey, frogs have been found genetic with mutations. It was discovered that some frogs have five legs, missing legs, and so on. Frogs are susceptible to enviromental change because of their slimy wet skin. Someday, human being could suffer from similar genetic mutations.
A lot of people have not been intersted in these types of enviromental problems. However, some enviromental problems have a wide range of effects such as acid rain and green house gases. Most of our problems are due to the effects of industry. So we can figure out solutions, but it will not be easy. On the other hand, others do not have clear reasons as of yet, such as genetic mutations. At this time, people should try to solve our problems. Otherwise, Earth will be dead in the future.

Abstract
This paper describes the effect of several pressureof kids. Recently, the rate of cruel crime between kids have raised rapidly. In America, thirteen,eleven year olds children killed their teacher and classmates. In Japan, a 14-year-old children killed his best friend by slitting his throat in front of the junior high school gate. Why do kids commit cruel crimes? This paper uses on educational background by using 2 examples: American murdercase, Japanese mardercase and analyzes the reason why these crimes occurred. Also, It explains current children need good environment such as parent's love and good education.
In America, thirteen, eleven year olds boys killed their teacher and classmates om March in 1998. They were shooting the guns as if they were enjoying video games on an Arkansans afternoon. In Japan, a fourteen year olds boy killed his bestfriend and displayed the young boy's head on the junior high school gate on January in 1997. Most of all specialist of educator said that this is similar to TV show which hold cruel murder case. Between young people, this is popular and thought to be cool.
What urges children to commit cruel homicide? "Moral poverty" is the key point that solve the problems. Both America and Japan has a different educational background. However, both cruel murder case has same problem called Moral poverty. Why has moral poverty created in modern life? The paper describes the process of several cruel crimes and analyzes the reason why boys commited murder case by looking for American and Japanese educational background. In conclusion, the paper concludes what is important for current children.
Kids has a chance to grow up in the environment surrounded by violence-on the street, in the home on the tube in electronic game. Also, in American society, it is very east to get guns. Arkansans's mayor said, "shooting gun is a sport like fishing." One of the boy commited crime has a father of a member of Practical Pistrol Shooters club. His environment got used to using guns.
Japanese educational background Kids has no chance to meet guns. However, their educational backgroud is very hard. Middle school has three goals which is eudurance, mastery, loyalty. They have to study hard to enter a prestageous university, they have to obey many school rules. In Japanese society, university is everyhing. If you can enter a prestageous university, you will be respected by people, and get a good job. So, parents make their children go to juku (a kind of cram school, but the purpose of juku is only study to raise exam score.). Children have to compete with their friends since when they were little. Also they are so busy that they can't communicate with their friends. So they have a lot of stress. What Urges Children to Commit Cruel Homicide?
"One is 13; the oher is 11. Raised aroud guns, they are acccused of opening fire on their schoolmates and teachers on an Arkansans afternoon. Why do kids kill?" ( 1998 Newsweek, P.21) This sentences give a lot of people a shock. The didn't go to scool on the day. The day before, they got their parent's four handguns and three high-powered rifles. Before this murder case, they are planning it very carefully. As children and teachers left the building, the boys allegedly fired dozenes of shots killinf fire and wounding 10.
" I want to take a revenge to Japanese education system." The boy left the letters beside the boy who he killed. He killed his best friend and displayed his head on the fence of local shool. Until police found out him, he continued to send letters. These leter were said, "I am very smart, you can't find out me. I hate school and people." Some letter were written by the boy's blood.
What urges children to commit cruel homicide? In fact, Both country hadn't cruel murder case like these while their paren's generation. Recently the rate of crime has raised rapidly.Is modern society wrong? Let's think about both society by using educational background.
As for American whom I interviewed,"It's very easy to get guns even if Wall Mart you can get guns."The environmant surrounded around children could be dangerous. Accordingly, children should take moral correctly. Adults know the danger of guns, however how many children know about that? Also, there are many chances to meet violence- on the street. In the home, on the tube, on the movie, in electronic games. Contrary to dangerous environment, it's clear that American education are helped by the affection of children's parents. I heard from one American,"Parents often go to school, sometimes help teacher." They try to do hard spending times with their children. However, the function of American family is complicated, some family is broken family, some is mixed family, some is single mother. Some children can't get much love from their parents.
In Japan, the rate of divorce is smaller than America. Children has a chance to receive to parent's love, but recently, parent's love is changeing. In Japanese society, University is everything. If you can enter a prestageous University, you don't have to worry about your future. The person from a prestageous Univresity will be respected by everyone, and get a good job. To achive that, parents take children to the cram school called juku. Children have to study hard,sometimes they stay in juku until midnight. Although children are supposed to have a lot of stress, most of all parents want to do that for children's future.
The children commited both murdercase didn't have a lot of love from parents and people. The boy commited murdercase in Arkansans said,"I killed because people like me are mistreated everyday.(1998 Newsweek P.25) He needed a love from someone. Children are strongly influenced from parents. " Mother's characteristic, including rigidity, anxiety, critical attitude affect children" ( 1991 Building the House P. 35) The boy who commited murdercase in Kobe also needed a love from someone. He behaved himself in front of his parents. His parents misunderstood his son. They try hard to send him to a prestageous University. However, it is true that he killed animals and cut his friend before cruel murder case. He might want to express feeling which looked at him.
In fact parents love their children. However, unfortunately modern society interuppted to give a love to children. If parents don't know moral or real love, the rate of young people murder case will raised from now on. It is doubtful that parent's love give to good influence or pressure. Parents and society have to teach to children what is good and what is bad. It is time to think about parent's behavior and educational backdroud supporting modern soceity.
