The Smashing Pumpkins, Machina/The Machines of God
A culmination of everything the Smashing Pumpkins have ever done musically, wrapped into one brilliant album. It seems that with each new album, this band has employed a new set of style rules while still managing to keep that Smashing Pumpkins sound. The grunge rock of Gish, the rock perfection known as Siamese Dream, the scratchy, imperfect Pisces Iscariot, the mystic and magical Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness and the dark, entrancing moodishness of Adore...all come together, each showing its head in one way or another on this new album. If you're a previous lover of The Smashing Pumpkins, this one will definitely score a big one in your heart...however, the new listener may find it hard to relate, thus making Machina a not-so-good choice as a first exposure to this highly talented band.
