President’s Message

AORN Congress is just ten days away. Your chapter will be sending five delegates and five alternates to Congress this year. I am sure we will have a lot to report back to you at our April meeting. Any of our chapter members can be a chapter delegate or alternate since they are chosen according to a point system. All it takes is involvement in your chapter, and there are different ways to be involved to earn points. Congress is a wonderful learning, and networking experience. After attending Congress you realize that you are not alone in you daily professional concerns and struggles. You also see what a strong professional organization you have that can be used as a resource and a help.

This year our chapter will be sending several members to Congress that have never attended. Having chapter members attend Congress for the first time is one of the most exciting aspects of Congress. Sending members as a first time congress attendee introduces them to our professional organization at the national level, and speaks well for our chapter since it shows we have more involvement of new members. I hope we are going to be sending first time Congress attendees to Congress every year.

Incidentally, for those members who have to access to the Internet, AORN provides a wonderful service called AORN MemberTalk. Member Talk is an email-based Internet discussion forum offered by AORN's National Membership Committee. MemberTalk is open to all AORN members. You can sign on to AORN MemberTalk through the AORN web page. That email address is printed in your newsletter.
