I have received a letter from National stating our chapter has been selected as a recipient of a 2000 AORN Award. This award will be presented at the 2000 AORN Congress Awards Dinner on April 1, 2000. I would like to offer my congratulations to our chapter members for the outstanding work everyone does.

Linda Pittman, Tom Macheski, and Stephanie Reitman-Swiss demonstrate another example of outstanding work, by chapter members, with their involvement in the Florida Council of periOperative Nurses. They serve on the Board of Directors or as Committee Chairs. And for the year 2000-2001 Tom will be running for Chair Elect and Stephanie Reitman-Swiss for the Board of Directors. Anyone who is a member of our chapter is also a member of FCORN.

Enclosed in this newsletter are the awards criteria for AORN 2001 Awards. The process for awards submission allows for self-application, as well as nomination by a group or chapter. Please nominate or self apply for these awards, which will be given at the 2001 Congress in Dallas, Texas. The Award for Excellence winner has their registration waived for Congress, their trip to Congress, their hotel, and a small perdiem paid to them as a winner. The other award winners have their congress registration paid. The deadline for submission is October1, 2000. The awards packet is on the AORN web site as http://www.aorn.org/about/crit.htm. AORN would like to have more student nurse involvement. The National dues for student nurses are $50.00 and our chapter will waive the chapter dues for student nurses. If you know any student nurses that are interested in perioperative nursing please invite them to the meetings. You can also call a chapter officer and we can contact them. Also invite the nurse who is a traveler, in your OR, to the monthly meetings. We want to make all present and future perioperative nurses feel welcomed at our meetings.
