President’s Message
September, 2001

I hope this letter finds you well and in good spirits. Summer for me is a time to slow down, take a breather, recharge the batteries. Would that it were so this summer! Leadership convention and Lobby Days in Washington, DC and the summer meeting of FCORN in Tampa have provided me with much food for thought. I would like to share some of these morsels with you.

I would like to begin with my goals for our chapter for this year. First, a goal that is also shared with AORN National, which is to encourage nurses in O.R. administrative and managerial positions to attend our monthly meetings and to become involved in chapter activities. To this end our first meeting of this new year will feature a presentation on Leadership by our own Nan Hanauer!

My next goal is to support nurses new to perioperative nursing by offering the opportunity of membership and all of the benefits of fellowship to be derived therein.

Our next goal will be to send our full compliment of delegates, which is five, along with two alternates to Congress in Anaheim, CA next year.

Next is to involve more of our members in fundraising activities. This is our lifeblood!

Another goal is to have our financial books audited and certified.

Finally, I wish that all of us promote vigorously the role of the perioperative professional registered nurse to our patients, physicians and surgeons, elected officials, members of the press, our friends and neighbors and all of the people that we come in contact with in the course of our daily lives. Never forget that we are in the operating room because the public demands it. Never forget! Be proud!

Be well. J.S.
