President’s Message
January, 2001

Money. Everything we do revolves in one way or another around money. Lets face it folks, we are a capitalist society, there is no denying it. We go to work, we work hard and we deserve and want more. But in order to make money, you need money. This is very true. You can't win the lottery without buying a ticket. You can't make money on the stock market without buying stocks. Believe it or not AORN is no different! Without the support of it's members our organization will not survive.

All you have to do is think about everything that AORN does to understand this. The publishing of the journal, giving out research grants to improve patient outcomes, establishing scholarships for nurses to continue their education. Developing a Surgical Knowledge Base for consumers to be better informed. Everything the association does is to improve patient outcomes.

Some of our members and non-members have stated that the dues for membership are too high! AORN dues at $65.00 plus $15.00 chapter dues are, and excuse the word, cheapest, in this country. That is only $0.22 a day. Less than a cup of coffee, or a soft drink. The Florida Nurses Association dues are $205.00 per year! What you get for your money is worth every penny, but not only that, you have the knowledge that you are a member of a World Wide Organization dedicated to improving patients care and outcomes around the globe.
